Bible Scripture Reading for Monday 31 October 2011

"Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 31 October 2011"

"Today's Blog Title: "Struggles Strengthen and Purify Us"
Today's Scripture Reading: Hebrews 12:1-29
Today's Key Verse: Hebrews 12:1,2 "Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weigh, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance that race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

Faith is especially needed when we face experiences intended to discipline us.  Yet Jesus Himself endured extreme suffering and opposition, setting us an example of perseverance up to the very point of death (verses 1-3).

What we must remember when difficulties come is that any good parent disciplines children.  Thus hardships are evidence that God is treating us like the sons and daughters we are (verses 4-7).  Surely if we respect human parents who discipline us, we must respect God, whose discipline is wiser and directed toward a greater goal (verses 8-11).  So we are not to crumple under difficulties, but proceed with courage and hope (verses 12,13).

The writer in the chapter now pauses to introduce a final warning.  Faith calls for us to live with others in holiness and peace (verses 14-17).  The first covenant was given to a frightened mob who stood before an earthly mountain that trembled and shook.  Our covenant was given by Jesus who opens heaven itself (verses 18-24).  God now intends to shake not just a mountain, but the earth and heavens as well, and we alone will inherit the unshakable kingdom of our God (verses 25-27).  How holy our lives should be, and how fervent the worship of our Awesome Lord (verses 28,29).

The Christian life is like a relay race.  Persons of faith who have run before us have passed the baton to us and now watch us carry on.  As we run we can look back and see how Jesus ran His race. When we look ahead we can see His exaltation.  He is our example as starter and finisher.

If we fail to sense the love and purposefulness the underlies God's discipline we them are likely to become bitter and "miss the grace of God."  If we see our trials and difficulties in the perspective provided by God's grace we will then accept God's discipline.

Today's Hymn: "Wrap Me In Your Arms"

There is a God who loves me, Who wraps me in His arms
And that is the place where I'm changed, and that's where I belong
Take me to place Lord, To that secret place where I can be with you
You can make me like You, Wrap me in Your arms
Wrap me in Your arms, Wrap me in Your arms

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, may we as Christians Lord listen to what the Holy Spirit has to say to us and may we if we have any unconfessed sins in our life's that is taking away our blessings from You, may we humbly come before Thee confessing our sins so that You Abba Father will forgive us of our sins and cleanse us of all unrighteousness.  May You wrap Your Loving arms around us and keep us in your mercy and grace.
                                                                                                                                Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Friday 28 October 2011

Today's Blog Title: "How Has Faith Expressed Itself In Your Life"
Today's Scripture Reading: Hebrews 11:1-40
Today's Key Verse: Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who  diligently seek him."

Verse one of this chapter is not so much a definition of what faith is, as it is a description of what faith does.  Substance means "essence" or "reality".  Faith it self proves that what is unseen is real such as the believer's rewards at the return of Christ.  Real faith produces startling results.

Creation is one of those things that by nature cannot be seen.  No one was there, and no evidence available today can demonstrate origins.  Throughout history various theories of origins have abounded.  The believer, however, shapes his or her view of origins by revelation and so understands that all that came into being by the commands of God (verse 3).

Stripped down to it's basics, faith is confidence that God exists, and the conviction that He "rewards those who earnestly seek Him."  Only those who know God not only as a power, but also as a Person who loves will truly seek Him (verse 6)

In verses 7-16 the writer goes on to further develop our grasp of this illusive thing called "faith".  Noah and Abraham both show us that faith is exhibited as an obedient and persistent response to God's Word.  For Noah faith meant a 120 year commitment despite popular ridicule to the construction  of a great boat.  Abraham 's faith meant a lifetime living a nomadic life, and seeing his son and grandson live that same kind of faith.  Faith obeys God and keeps on obeying (verses 7-16)

Abraham's faith is most stunning.  He was told to sacrifice his son Isaac, he was totally convinced that God would keep His promise to give him off spring by Isaac that he concluded God would raise his son from the dead.  Abraham knew that the vision God gave of the future would come true, as he continued to obey God (verses 17-23).

As "son of Pharaoh's daughter" Moses was in line to inherit Egypt's throne.  Yet he chose to cast his lot with the slave people of his parents, valuing God's promises more than earthly treasures. Faith transforms our values and sharpens our choices (verses 24-28).

Faith is no guarantee of earthly success, through faith has won great victories.  What acts of faith do guarantee is that we will please God and ultimately be rewarded by Him (verses 29-38).

It's easy to wonder at the Bible's hero's of the faith.  Especially when we realized they had relatively little knowledge of God.  How motivated we who know Jesus should be to complete what we have begun and live a life of faith today.

Today's Hymn: "I Need Thee Every Hour"

I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord, No tender voice like thine can peace afford
I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby, Temptations lose their power when Thou art nigh
I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain, Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain
I need Thee every hour, teach me Thy Will, and Thy rich promises in me fulfill
I need Thee every hour, mos Holy One, O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son
I need Thee, O I need Thee, Every hour I Need Thee
O bless me now, My Savior, I come to Thee

Heavenly father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit how we as Christian's in faith believe in the resurrection, the return of Jesus and the glorification of all that have taken You as there Lord and Savior.  How thankful we are of the forgiveness of our sins through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the Cross of Calvary and His present intercession for us before our Abba Father.  Our hope is faith relating to the future and our faith is conviction relating to the present.
                                                                                                                                              Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Wednesday 26 October 2011"

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 26 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "No More Sacrifice"
Today's Scripture Reading: Hebrews 10:1-39
Today's Key Verse: Hebrews 10:23 "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful."

In Today's Scripture Reading we read how he identified ways in which the sacrifice of Christ is superior.  The endless repetition of sacrifices made under the Mosaic Law is proof they could not perfect the worshiper.  Similarly Christ's offering of a single sacrifice is proof that He makes men and women holy! (verses 1-10)

Jesus after making one sacrifice "sat down" at God's right hand, signifying that His work was finished (verses 11-14).  Scripture adds it testimony in that it reminds us that under the New Covenant those who come to Christ for forgiveness are forgiven.  Once we are truly forgiven no more sacrifice is required (verses 15-18).

In verses 19-25 the writer urges his readers to draw confidence from Christ's High Priesthood and so "hold unswervingly to the hope that we profess" as Christians.  There are terrible consequences for anyone who refuses to respond to God's saving act in Christ (verses 26-31).

In verses 32-39 the writer knows his audience has made a very different choice--a choice exhibited in their commitment to Christ despite persecution, prison, or confiscation of property.  He urges them to hold on to their initial confidence, sure that soon Jesus will come, and we will be ready for Him then.

Today's Hymn: "This Is The day The Lord Hath Made"

This is the day the Lord hath made; He calls the hours His own;
Let heaven rejoice, let earth be glad, and praise surround the throne
Today He rose and left the dead, And Satan's empire fell;
Today the saints His triumphs spread, And all His wonders tell
Hosanna to the anointed King, To David's Holy Son;
Help us, O Lord; descend and bring, Salvation from Thy throne.
Blest be the Lord, who comes to men, With messages of grace;
Who comes in God His Father's Name, To save a sinful race.
Hosanna in the highest strains, The Church on earth can raise;
The highest heavens, in which He reigns, Shall give Him nobler praise

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit how we as Christians thank you Jesus for the ultimate sacrifice that you made upon the Cross of Calvary where You shed Your blood that when we come to You and ask for forgiveness we are washed in the blood of the Lamb that cleanses us of all our sins and our unrighteousness.  Thank you Abba Father that we have been separated from our sins and set apart to You by the once and for sacrifice of Your Son Jesus Christ. Thank you Jesus for being our High Priest who having been tempted as we are yet without sin can sympathize with our weakness and who can perfectly represent us before Your Father.
                                                                                                                                              Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Tuesday 25 October 2011"

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 25 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Free At Last"
Today's Scripture Reading: Hebrews 1-28
Today's Key Verse: Hebrews 9:27,28 "And as it is appointed for en to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many.  To those who eagerly wait for Him, He will appear a second time, apart from din, for salvation."

In Chapter 9 the writer reminds us that every element of the Mosaic Covenant had special significance, for it reflected realities in heaven (verses 1-5).  The most important significant act of all was performed on the Day of Atonement.

There the high priest entered the inner room of the tabernacle, the holy place, carrying blood of an atoning sacrifice (verse 6,7).  The curtain separating this inner room symbolized the fact that under the Mosaic Law no one had direct access in to God's presence (verses 8-10).

Jesus Christ, our High Priest, entered heaven itself, bearing His own blood.  By His sacrifice he obtained eternal salvation for us (verses 11-14).  Christ is then the mediator of a New Covenant, activated by His death.  This is in fact the significance of Old Testament sacrifices: in cleansing earthly things they symbolize the cleansing Jesus won for us (verses 15-22).

Animal sacrifices were sufficient for earthly copies, but Christ alone could enter heaven and then with His own blood,  put away our sin once and for by the one sufficient and awesome sacrifice of Himself (verses 23-28).

Today's Hymn: "Blessed Assurance"

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood
Perfect submission, perfect delight! Visions of rapture now burst on my sight
Angels descending bring from above, Echoes of mercy , whispers of love
Perfect submission, all is at rest, I in my Savior am happy and blest:
Watching and waiting, looking above, Filled with His goodness, lost in His love
This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song, Praising my Savior all the day long

Heavenly Father Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit because of the one sacrifice of Jesus Christ upon the Cross we have been saved from all our sins and unrighteousness.  What a loving and merciful Heavenly Father that we serve that send His Son to die the sinners death upon the Cross of Calvary that none would perish if they but believed and trusted in the name of Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.  How thankful to be born of His Spirit and washed in His blood.

Bible Scripture Reading for Saturday 22 October 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 22 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "The New Is Better"
Today's Scripture Reading: Hebrews 8:1-13
Today's Key Verse: "Hebrews 8:10 "For this the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people."

Aaronic priest ministered on earth, in a sanctuary which was a copy and shadow of heavenly realities.  Our High Priest, Jesus, ministers in heaven itself (verses 1-6).  The superiority of Christ's ministry is further reflected in the superiority of the covenant which governs it.

The old Mosaic Covenant was flawed.  The Old Testament itself predicts its replacement by a New Covenant (verses 7-9).  Under the New Covenant there are four provisions of the New Covenant: (1) God's Law will be written on believers minds and hearts (2) Believers will have a relationship with God (3) All will know God (4) God will forgive the sins of believers and remember them no more.

The word remember in verse 12 means more than recall.  It means to "act in accordance with" what is remembered.  Not  to remember sins means God, when we accept the Lord Jesus Christ into our lives will not punish them because they have been washed in the blood of the Lamb.

Today's Hymn: Amazing Grace (verses 5 and 6)

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease
I shall possess, within the veil, a life of joy and peace
The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, The sun forbear to shine;
But God. Who called me her below, Will be forever mine.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how we thank you Jesus for being our High Priest.  Holy Spirit as we read and study from the Word of God help us to understand what we read by applying it to our hearts and minds.  May we hide Thy Word in our hearts that we might not sin against Thee."
                                                                                                                       Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Thursday 20 October 2011"

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 20 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Jesus Guarantees Our Salvation"
Today's Scripture Reading: Hebrews 7:1-28
Today's Key Verse: Hebrews 7:25 "Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them."

In Chapter 7 we now read the emphasizes on the fact that Jesus' priesthood does not derive from Aaron but from Melchizedek.  Melchizedek appears briefly in sacred history, as king of Salem, later called Jerusalem, and as a priest.  He blessed Abraham after the patriarch's victory over invading kings, and Abraham gave him a tithe of the plunder (Genesis 14).

From this brief account the writer of Hebrews establishes two things: as the greater blesses the lesser, Melchizedek was greater than Abraham.  And as Aaron was, in a sense, present in his great-grandfather Abraham, Aaron paid tithes to Melchizedek and thus acknowledges the superiority of his priesthood (verses 1-10).

As the psalmist quotes God ordaining someone as a "priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek ," it is clear that God always intended to make a change in the Aaronic priesthood.  And such a change requires a change in the whole system of Mosaic Law of which that priesthood was a part (verses 11-19).

You may ask, "How is Jesus priesthood better?"  It is "forever," and thus rests on a better covenant covenant (verses 20-22).  It is permanent, for Jesus lives and thus can save us completely (verses 23-25).

Jesus meets our every need, for by the one sacrifice of Himself, this High Priest settled forever the issue of us sins (verses 26-28).

Today's Hymn: "Amazing Grace" (verses 3-4)

Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come;
"Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home
The Lord has promised good to me, His word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and portion be, As long as life endures

Heavenly Father. Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit How thankful we are that the King of kings and Lord of lords who rules in righteousness and peace.  How thankful we are that we have hope in the presence of God and that through Jesus  we come come boldly before the throne of God.  How we worship you Jesus, who is higher than the heavens, and is exalted above all, and sits in glory at the right hand of the Father.
                                                                                                                                          Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Tuesday 18 October 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 18 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "You Can Be Sure"
Today's Scripture Reading: "Hebrews 6:1-20
Today's Key Verses: Hebrew 6:19-20 "This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek."

In Chapter 6 the writer of Hebrews continues his warnings to those, though believers, have failed to mature.  The foundation of "elementary teachings" has been laid: We mature by building on them, not going back over them again and again (verses 1-3).

"Falling away" is not an issue:  What would a person who has received the heavenly gift and participated in the Holy Spirit do to start over again? Recrucify Jesus?  What a disgrace that would be (verses 4-6)!  Christians are like crop land, on whom God's rain has showered.  We are intended to produce a beneficial crop, not thorns (verses 7,8).

The writer here is sure that his Jewish Christian readers are not a wasteland, he simply wants to stimulate them to diligence (verses 9-12).  He also wants to reassure them and reminds them that their salvation is guaranteed by the promise of God who cannot lie and that His promise was even confirmed with a sworn oath.  What an "anchor for our soul" this provides for those who believe in Jesus, our great High Priest (verses 13-20).

Today's Hymn: "Amazing Grace" (verses 1 and 2)

Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me!
I was once was lost, but now am found; Was blind but now I see
"Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And Grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear, The hour I first believed!
Though many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come;
"Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Holy Spirit how wonderful as a believer it is to know that our hope in Christ is secure like an anchor not in sand but in the very presence of Almighty God.  May we as Christians continue to place our hope and faith in the bodily resurrection of Jesus for without Your resurrection Lord there would be no forgiveness of sins.  Thank you Abba Father that once we are saved nothing can separate us from Your love.
                                                                                                                                    Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "Those who make a habit of obeying the message of righteous mature in the faith and are able to distinguish good and evil."

Bible Scripture Reading for Monday 17 October 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 17 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Jesus Is On Our Side, and He Truly Understands"
Today's Scripture Reading: Hebrew 5:1-14
Today's Key Verse: Hebrew 5:8,9 "Though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.  And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him."

The high priest held a unique position in Israel's religion, a position available only to a descendant of Aaron.  So the writer in in Hebrews 5 is careful to enumerate Christ's qualification for this role in New Testament faith.

The high priest is "appointed from among men."  His commission to represent other men before God requires one whose own humanity makes him sensitive to mankind's needs (verses 1-3).  This high honor must be confirmed by God Himself (verse 4).  Christ thus was appointed to the priesthood by His Father (verses 5,6).

Christ also meets the qualification of sensitivity to human fragility: as a man Jesus "learned obedience from what He suffered" (verses 7,8).  Thus qualified He was designated "High Priest in the order of Melchizedek" and He has become the source of our salvation (verses 9,10).

With this said, the author launches yet another warning, merited because of his readers' apparent inability to grasp even the elementary truths of Christianity.  If we go on to maturity, we must use the truths we have been taught as a guide to distinguish good from evil.  To be "meat" rather than "milk", truth must be applied and used.

Today's Hymn: "Keep Me Wholly Thine"

Now to the Fountain of Life I am going, Jesus, I pray Thee, make me Thine
All I surrender to Thee, O my Savior, All to Thy sovereign will divine
O what a fullness of love He has granted, O what a rapture, Lord, is mine
Now I am trusting the words of Thy promise, Thou hast redeemed me, I am Thine
Wholly Thine, Wholly Thine, Seal and keep me Thine
Wholly Thine, Wholly Thine, Keep me wholly Thine

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are Lord that you while living upon this earth among us understands, that you went through the same things that we go through in trails and temptations yet without sin.  How thankful we are that You carried out your fathers plans for our redemption and that through Your blood and resurrection we are saved by the Grace of God.  May we in our Christian life's "Be still and know that You are God."
                                                                                                                                            Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Sunday 16 September 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 16 September 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Obedience Opens the Way to Rest"
Today's Scripture Reading: Hebrews 4:1-16
Today's Key Verse: Hebrews 4:12 "For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit. and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

The writer in this chapter continues his urgent discussion of "rest" from Chapter 3.  God's Word has come to this generation, as it did to those of Moses' time, with a similar promise of rest.  But the promise does us no good unless we hear and respond with faith (verses 1-3).

The concept of God's "rest" is rooted in Creation and has a vital meaning for us "today" (verses 4-8).  When in Genesis 2:2,3 it says, "God rested from His work", it doesn't mean God is inactive.  It means that God no longer works, that in His act of Creation, he planned for every
contingency. There is no problem that we that god has already provided a solution.  Our task then is not to our own answers.  It is to listen for His voice, sure He will lead us into His rest (verses  9-11).

How much trust can we put in God voice?  Total trust for nothing in our lives is hidden from Him.  His word searches our whole being, not to condemn us, but to sense our deepest, most secret needs.  With these laid bare, God's Spirit guides us  to His rest (verses12,13).

The warning uttered, the writer reminds us of a wonderful truth.  Through Jesus out High Priest we have immediate access to God.  If we need help to find our way, He will give it freely (verses 14-16).

Today's Hymn: "Beautiful Garden Of Prayer"

There's a garden, where Jesus is waiting, And I go with my burden and care
Just to learn from His lips, words of comfort, In the beautiful garden of prayer
Oh, the beautiful garden, the garden of prayer;
There my Savior awaits, and He opens the gates
To the beautiful garden of prayer

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit how grateful we are Abba Father we are that You loved us so much that You send Your Son Jesus Christ to us to die upon the Cross of Calvary for our sins.  How we thank You Jesus for standing before the Father as our advocate and through you we can approach the throne room God and lay our prayers and petition at His feet.  May we as Your children be still and listen for Your voice as we walk our daily life's with Thee.
                                                                                                                                                  Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "Walking according to the Spirit highlights the active participation and effort of the believer."

Today's Blog Title: "Be Faithful"
Today's Scripture Reading:  Hebrews 3:1-19
Today's Key Verse: Hebrews 3:5,6 "And Moses was indeed faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, but Christ as a Son was His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end."

As Son of God, Jesus is greater than those supernatural beings known as angels.  As a true human being, the writer now tell us Jesus is greater than Moses (verses 1-6).  This is a vital point, for no human being was as revered in Judaism as Moses, the giver of the Law.

This point also induces the writer to add another warning.  Speaking of the time of Moses, the Scriptures remind God's people that the Exodus generation could not enter the Promised land because of disobedience (verses 7-11).  Their failure to experience that rest was due to the hardened, sinful hearts that would not respond to the Word that God spoke through Moses.

Their failure, and the judgment that followed, is a warming addressed to all who hear God's Word in their own hearts "today".  Those who will not believe God's Word, and demonstrate unbelief by disobedience will never experience "rest" today (verses 12-19). "Rest" then depends
on faith that is expressed as obedience.

Today's Hymn: "Love Lifted Me (verse 2)

All my heart to Him I'll give, ever to Him I'll Cling
In His blessed presence live, ever His praises sing.
Love so mighty and so true, merits my souls best songs;
Faithful, loving service, too, to Him belongs
Love Lifted Me! (even me) Love Lifted Me! (even me)
When nothing else could help, Love Lifted Me!

Heavenly father Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how we glorify and worship you for all that You have done for me.  How thankful we are that Your Love does lift us high.  We as your children will forever sing glorious praises unto You our Creator and our Lord.  May we in our humble obedience always fine our rest in Thee.
                                                                                                                                Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "Those who endure to the end, steadfastly placing their hope in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will live with Him throughout all eternity."

Have a God Filled and Spirit Led Day.  Go in Peace and Serve the Lord our God with Gladness.
Love God More Today and always remember that when you have a spiritual dilemma in your life and you yell out, "I CAN'T", God Whispers to you, "BUT I CAN".

Bible Scripture Reading for Thursday 13 October 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 13 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Bringing Many Sons To Glory"
Today's Scripture Reading: Hebrews 2:1-18
Today's Key Verses: Hebrews 2:11-13 "For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: "I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to you."  And again "I will put my trust in You."  and again: "Here am I and the children whom God has given Me."

In this Chapter the writer now introduces the first of a series of warning which punctuate this book.  If those who disobeyed the older revelation could could not avoid God's wrath which was mediated by angels, how could anyone who ignores the 'great salvation" announced by the Son of God expect to escape judgment? (2:1-4).

The writer now returns to the theme of Jesus' superiority.  Christ took on humanity, and in the process temporarily became "lower than the angels," even though in Creation God announced a far greater destiny for mankind (verses 5-8a).

Jesus who suffered death for us now "crowned with glory and honor," and in His exaltation we see our destiny, for now He and we are members of the same family (8b-15).  How was Jesus made "perfect through suffering"?  Jesus must be a true human being in order to be qualified to save humanity and thus must experience life as we experience it.  Christ's suffering as a human didn't make him better, it established one vital qualification as Savior.

Christ took on real humanity and through death released us from the fear of death.  He did this not to help angels, but to help "Hos brothers," for whose sins He made atonement (verses
16-18).  In taking on humanity Jesus lowered Himself--that He might lift us up.  One of the greatest mysteries of all time is that God the Son entered the human race and was "made like his brothers in every way."

To say that Jesus was human "in every way" means that, apart from a sin nature, the Son of God accepted our limitations and lived within them.  He experienced hunger and thirst.  He grew tired and knew loniness  He felt the pain of rejection and misunderstanding and yearned for the deep relationships which we find so satisfying.  Many passages in the New Testament make it clear that Jesus truly was God and man.

A high priest had to be able to sympathize with those he represented to God.  The testings Jesus underwent as a human being meant that He understands.

Today's Hymn: "Redeemed How I Love To Proclaim It"

Redeemed, and so happy in Jesus, No language my rapture can tell
I know that the light of His presence, with me doth continually dwell
Redeemed, redeemed, Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb
Redeemed, redeemed, His child and forever I am

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are that we have a High Priest in Jesus whom stands before the Father and intercedes for us.  We have a High Priest who was tempted as we are yet without sin.  We have a High Priest who's blood has cleansed us from all our unrighteousness.  Thank You Jesus for conquering death and sin when you arose from the grave defeating Satan and the death hold that he had on us forever.
                                                                                                                                 Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "Satan uses the fear of death to enslave us, the Son eliminated such fear and broke the bondage of sin and death."

Bible Scripture Reading for Monday 10 October 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 10 October 2011"

Today we begin in the Book of Hebrews.  The structure of Hebrew is unique among the Epistles of the New Testament.  Was it a letter or a sermon?  It has the ending of a letter but not the salutation of one.  It does not name its author or ts intended audience, yet it contains personal greetings , assumes that the readers knew who was writing to them, and mentions some well known mutual acquaintances, such as Timothy (Hebrews 13:23).   This mix of elements has caused much debate over the the Book of Hebrews really is, with no solid conclusion.  The author himself calls it "The word of exhortation" (Hebrews 13:22).

Today's Blog Title: "God, Exactly"
Today's Scripture Reading: Hebrews 1:1-14
Today's Key Verse: Hebrews 1:1-4 " God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who bring the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

Hebrews begins with a grand affirmation.  God, who spoke to man through intermediaries, has now spoken to us by His Son, a Son who God Himself in all splendor and power. (Hebrews 1:1-4).  The author underlines the fact that the Son is Superior to angels.  Jewish tradition held that angels gave the Old Covenant (the law) to Moses.  This One through whom God  has now spoken is superior for He, not the angels, is spoken to by God as "My Son" (verse 5). He is superior because angels are commanded to worship the Son (verse 6).  He is superior because angels are servants, while the Son sits on the throne (verses 7-9).

The Son is superior not only as Creator of the universe, but as One who in endless life sits at God's right hand (verses 10-13).  Angels are ministering spirits; not masters of the universe, but servants of God's saints (verse 14).

Today's Hymn: "Lead Me To Calvary"

King of my life, I crown Thee now, Thine shall the glory be;
Lest I forget Thy thorn crowned brow, Lead me to Calvary
Show me the tomb where Thou was laid, Tenderly mourned and wept
Angels in robes of light arrayed, Guarded Thee while Thou slept
Let me like Mary, through the gloom, Come with a gift to Thee
Show to me now the empty tomb, Lead me to Calvary
May I be willing, Lord, to bear, Daily my cross for Thee
Even Thy cup of grief to share, Thou hast borne all for me
Lest I forget Gethsemane, Lest I forget Thine agony;
Lest I forget Thy love for me, Led me to Calvary

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are that You have the whole world and the vast universe in Your hands and that You are in total control of all that happens.  How we as Christians look forward to the day when we shall spend all eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  How we are looking forward to inherit our share of the kingdom as a reward for our faithful and obedient service to Thee.
                                                                                                                          Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Sunday 9 October 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 9 October 2011"

Since yesterday was the Completion of the Book Of Romans I will will going into the Book of Hebrews starting Monday 10 October.  Today's will be a Bible verse from God's Holy Word.

Today's Bible Verse: Matthew 7:7 "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened."

Both Jesus (Luke 18:1) and Paul (1 Timothy 2:1) emphasized the importance of prayer, noting that people ought always to pray.  Prayer includes asking and getting answers from God.  But it is more than just asking; it is a confession, adoration, thanksgiving, and fellowship with God.

By its nature, prayer is talking with God.  It is the basis of the successful Christian life, and is so important that not praying is considered a sin (1 Samuel 12:23). When we pray we should follow the model prayer Jesus gave His disciples and address it to our Heavenly Father-- beginning with adoration, including thanksgiving and confession of sins, making reconciliation with others, praying for our needs and the needs of others, and concluding in Jesus name (Matthew 6:9-15; John 14:14).

Jesus pointed out that god heard the prayer of a humble publican rather than that of a proud Pharisee (Luke 18:14).  God will answer our prayers when we obey Him (1 John 3:22), confess sin (Psalm 66:18), abide in Christ (John 15:7), ask according to the will of God (1 John 5:14), ask in Faith (Mark 11:24), have pure motives (James 4:3), and live peaceably with our mate (1 Peter 3:7).

Today's Scripture tells us to ask, seek and knock which should always remind us that we as Christians are to pray actively and persistently.  How much better to pray for others and not to judge them.  How much better to pray that God will remove our own faults and flaws than to hide them.  All these things should remind us of our dependence on God and of His willingness to shower us with good gifts.

Today's Hymn: "Beautiful Garden of Prayer"

There's a Garden where Jesus is waiting, There's a place that is wondrously fair;
For it glows with the light of His presence, 'Tis that beautiful garden of prayer
Oh, the beautiful garden, the garden of prayer, Oh, the beautiful garden of prayer
There my Savior awaits, and he opens the gates, To the beautiful garden of prayer

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are as Your children of Your willingness to give us gifts and to shower us each day with Your blessings.  As we come before You in prayer may we ask that we might receive from You, may we seek that we might find You, and may we knock that You will open for us the blessing that You have to give to us Your children.

Bible Scripture Reading for Friday 7 October 2007

"Greeting in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 7 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "He Is Able"
Today's Scripture Reading: Romans 16:1-27
Today's Key Verse: Romans 16:20 "And the God of Peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen."

As we close our study in the Book of Romans we see that Paul in Chapter 16 closes this great letter to the Romans he gives much space to personal greetings.  We might well wonder why?  Why would God choose to include a lengthy list of names?

The answer may be simply that in these names we sense more clearly what it means to practice a "by faith righteousness" in a Christian Community.  Paul did not write theory.  He shared what he himself practiced.  And the proof is that he knows and loves such a diverse group of persons so well.

There are men and women, both of whom are viewed as "fellow workers in Christ."  There are Greek names and Jewish names.  There are simple folk and city officials, the likely poor and the undoubtedly rich.  All these, together, are united in Paul's heart and mind.   All these brothers and sisters, bound to the apostle by ties of God-inspired love.  In these last chapters of Romans he urges us to have the same love for those who in our day are, in Christ, brothers and sisters of our own.

My last question and comment as we end the Book of Romans is this.  How is it possible to take sinful human beings, motivated by selfish and sinful passions, separated by racial prejudice and vast social differences, and create a community bonded together by selfish love?  The answer is: Only God could do it in the world of the 1st Century and only God can do it today.

Today's Hymn: "This Is The Day The Lord Hath Made"

This is the day the Lord hath made; He calls the hours His own;
Let Heaven rejoice, let earth be glad, And praise surround the throne.
Today He rose and left the dead, And Satan's empire fell;
Today the saints His triumphs spread, And all His wonders tell
Hosanna to the anointed King, To David's holy Son;
Help us, O Lord; descend and bring, Salvation from Thy throne
Blest be the Lord, who comes to men, With messages of grace;
Who comes in God His Father's Name, To save our sinful race

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, may we as Christians not be a stumbling block to others.  May our love for You demonstrate Your love for us and reflect God's justice.  How we as Christians look forward to the day when You will totally defeat Satan and bring peace to the church and when the Prince of peace will bring lasting peace to this world.
                                                                                                                                        Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Thursday 6 October 2011

"Greeting in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 6 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "A Pathway To Praise"
Today's Scripture Reading: Romans 15:1-33
Today's Key Verse: Romans 15:13 "Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."

In Chapter 15 Paul continues the topic developed in Romans 14.  Practicing righteousness requires us to live love with one another.  This means we must stop judging others and instead evaluate how the exercise of our freedoms affect them!   We strong ones must "bear with" the weak, in the interest of building them up (verses 1-4).  Our goal is the experience of a God-given spirit of unity enabling us to glorify Him together (verses 5,6)  Paul says it again.  accept and welcome on another in the same way Jesus welcomed us, UNCONDITIONALLY, just as we were (verses 7,8).  Our unity will glorify God.  We in turn will be filled with joy and peace and overflow with hope (verses 9-13).

Paul now begins a lengthy conclusion.  He has written not because he doubts the Roman Church, but because he has such confidence in it (verses 14-16).  He has not visited Roman yet, in part because he is driven to preach to those who have not yet heard of Jesus (verses 17-22).  Yet Paul plans to visit, perhaps on the way to Spain.  Meanwhile. he asks them simply to pray for him in his struggles to please God (verses 23-33).  In the closing verses of this Chapter, even the great apostle Paul felt a need for prayer support.  How much greater our needs must be even today.

Today's Hymn: "Beautiful Garden Of Prayer"

There's a garden where Jesus is waiting, There's a place that is wondrously fair;
For it glows with the light of His presence, "This that beautiful garden of prayer.
Oh, the beautiful garden, the garden of prayer, Oh, the beautiful garden of prayer;
There my Savior awaits, and He opens the gates, To the beautiful garden of prayer

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, may we as Christians be united for Thee in everything that we say and do.  May we as we read Thy Word have Patience, Endurance, Comfort and Encouragement as we read the Scriptures where we have Hope in the Lord Jesus Christ through are faith and trust in Him.
                                                                                                                              Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Wednesday 5 October 2011

Today's Blog Title: "One Lord"
Today's Scripture Reading: Romans 14:1-23
Today's Key Verse: Romans 14:9-12 "For to this end Christ died and arose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living.  But why do you show contempt for your brother?  For we all shall stand before the judgment seat of Christ.  For it is written: "As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.  So then each of us shall give account of Himself to God."

Paul in Romans 14, now returns to focus his thoughts on the practice of faith based righteousness in relationships within the Christian community.  Believers are to accept one another without condemnation for personal convictions (14:1,2).  We have no right to judge others on such issues, for they are matters of conscience, to be settled between the individual and the Lord.

Believers must then "stop passing judgment on one another" (14:3-12).  Instead each person needs to sensitive to how his or her choices affect others (14:13-18), and choose to do those things which "lead to peace and to mutual edification" (14:19-21).  In this way we protect each other's conscience and the quality of his or her personal relationship with the Lord (14:22-23).

Passing judgment means determining, on the basis of our own beliefs and convictions, that another person is sinning.  When a person engages in an act which the Bible calls sin, we are not "passing judgment" to call that act sin, but we are agreeing with God.  It's important to have this distinction clearly in mind.  The church is to discipline believers who sin.  But neither individual nor the congregation has any right to pass judgment.

In 14;15, the word "destroy" is used here in the sense of causing ruin or downfall.  The next verses help us to understand Paul's meaning.  A misuse of freedom may "tear down" God's work in a fellow believer rather than build up that person.

Lets not flaunt our freedoms in front of others of weak conscience, who may be torn down by our actions rather than being built up spiritually.  How can you tell when to give up a freedom?  There are no rules.  But Jesus is Lord and He Lives.  Ask Him!

Today's Hymn: ""At The Cross"

Was it for crimes that I have done, He groaned upon the tree?
Amazing Pity! Grace unknown! And love beyond degree
At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light
And the burden of my heart rolled away, It was there by faith I received my sight,
And now I am happy all the day

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, may we who are strong in the faith stand by and help strengthen those who are weak in there faith.  May we as Christians live and die in our relationship with Thee.  May we as Christians not be indifferent to the suffering or joy of fellow believers, but rejoice with them and comfort as brothers and sisters in Christ.
                                                                                                                                          Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Tuesday 4 October 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 4 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Why submit to government"
Today's Scripture Reading: Romans 13:1-14
Today's Key Verse: Romans 13:1 "Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities.  For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God."

Living out God's "by-faith righteousness" affects our relationships with other believers (Romans 12).  It also affects our relationship with the secular state and all our fellow human beings.  We as Christians must submit to governing authorities by obeying their rulers, paying taxes, and following established laws (13:1-5).  Authorities are in fact God's (often unwilling) servants, and our submission is a mark of respect for God (13:6-7).

Christians must also show love to their fellow humans beings (13:8).  All the commandments are rooted in love: each calls us to avoid that which might harm a neighbor and in living love, will in practice fulfill God's Law (13:9,10).

This obligation is urgent, for history rushes towards its end and we must clothe ourselves with Christ rather than gratify the desires of our sinful nature (13:11-14).  The closing verse of Chapter 13 says, "But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts."  Believers should clothed themselves with Christlike characteristics such as, truth, righteousness and peace.

Today's Hymn: "He Leadeth Me"

He leadeth me, O blessingd thought! O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whatever I do, Wherever I be, Still it is God's hand that leadeth me
He leadeth me, He leadeth me,  By His own hand He leadeth me;
His faithful follower I would be, For by His hand He leadeth me.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are as Christians, that indeed by Your powerful hand You lead us every day.  May be always remember that those who are in charge of us in governement have been  put there by You and may we we submit to that authority because it has been ordained by You.
                                                                                                                 Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "The greatest proof of the truth of the gospel message and of the reality of Jesus' love is the love believers show to each other."

Bible Scripture Reading for Mon 3 October 2011

Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 3 October 2011"

Today's Blog Title: Try It, You'll Like It"
Today's Scripture Reading: Romans 12:1-21
Today's Key Verse: Romans 12:1,2: "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God. which is your reasonable service.  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

God has acted to provide (Romans 3-5) and impart (Romans 6-8) righteousness.  Now Paul moves to  practical issues that are deeply rooted in theology of this treatise on righteousness.  "By-faith righteousness" has a distinctive, beautiful shape all its own!

On the basis of all God has done Paul urges believers to open themselves up to transformation rather than conform to the world's ways (verses 1,2).  He shows that the practice of righteousness requires intimate ties to the new faith community.  God has created a new thing: a living body.  He has given each member gifts that enable him or her to contribute to the welfare of the whole (verses 3-8).

To function as a body, believers must practice love and serve one another.  They must strengthen those interpersonal bonds that enable them to minister.  God wants us to be 'living sacrifices".  He wants us to live for Him daily.  We are not longer to look at life's issues as mere human beings, but let our perceptions be reshaped by God's own revelation of reality in the Bible.  "Trust God's will to be good, test your confidence by doing God's will, and you will discover God's way truly is goo, pleasing, and perfect."
