Bible Scripture Reading for Saturday 28 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Reflections in a Treacherous Man"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 52:1-9
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 52:8,9  "But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God.  I trust in the mercy  of God forever and ever.  I will trust you forever, because You have done it; and in the presence of your saints I will wait on Your Name because it is good."

Psalm 52 is a psalm of lament, that strongly emphasizes judgment of David's enemies.  This is one of the eight psalms written by David while he was fleeing from Saul.  It refers to an occasion when Doeg had accused Ahimelech the priest for assisting David at Nob.

David finds comfort in comparing the certain destruction if the treacherous with the destiny of the godly.  This psalm has three parts: (1) the question of why the wicked boast in evil (verses 1-4); (2) a proclamation that God will destroy the wicked (verses 5-7); (3) a vow to praise the Lord (verses 8,9).

Today's Hymn: "Glory To His Name" (verse 1)

Down at the cross where my Savior died, Down where for cleansing from sin I cried
There to my heart was the blood applied, Glory to His Name!
Glory to His Name, Glory to His Name
There to my heart was the blood applied, glory to His Name!

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How we thank You for the strength and power that You give to us to help us defeat the enemy.  How grateful we are that when you arose from the grave you conquered death and sin and defeated Satan forevermore.  Thank You for that victory that we have in you.
                                                                                                            Amen

Bible Scripture for Thursday 26 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Confession of Sin"
Today's Scripture Reading:  Psalm 51:1-19
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 51:1,2  "Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies.  Blog out my transgression.  wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin."

From the superscription we learn that Psalm 51 was written sometime after David's sin with Bathsheba.  The psalm gives expression to why David was "a man after God's own heart": he was not perfect, but he had a sensitivity to sin that few know about.

In verses 2 and 3 you will see the use of the first person singular: mine iniquity, my sin, my transgressions.  After David asks God forgiveness and and confesses his guilt, David prays for inner renewal and promises thanksgiving and ministry. The passage clearly teaches that those who have failed God may be restored to the service of God.

David's cry here may reflect only the fear, not the reality, of losing the Spirit, and being rejected by God.  Thus, he asks God to restore the the joy of his salvation, not salvation itself.

Today's Hymn:  "Since Jesus Came Into My Heart" (verse 1)

What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought, since Jesus came into my heart
I have light in my soul for which long I have sought, since Jesus came into my heart
Since Jesus came into my heart, since Jesus came into my heart
Floods of joy o'er my soul, like sea billows roll
Since Jesus came into my heart

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How thankful we are that when we as Christians slip and fall we still have Your forgiving grace when we approach You and confess our sins.  It's so great to know that we have the light of the world dwelling with us that lights our path on those occasions when we have the storms and trials of life.  Life is much better since Jesus came into my heart.
                                                                                                                      Amen

Bible Scripture for Wednesday 27 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's writings in Psalm 50 will have us 1/3 of the way through the Book of Psalm.  I would estimate that we will be through this book in late August and then begin a Study in the Book of Romans.

Today's Blog Title: "A Vision of God's Heavenly Court"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 50:1-23
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 50:14,15 "Offer to God thanksgiving, and pay your vows to the Most High.  Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me."

Psalm 50 is one of the twelve psalms written by  Asaph one of the music leaders appointed by David and is a wisdom psalm.  Asaph describes God's courtroom, where the wicked are indicted.  The glorious Judge takes His seat to judge His covenant people.  They are examined on two issues (1) formalism in worship and (2) wickedness in their relationship with others.  The psalmist's vision is to warn God's people away from those actions which will most surely be judged.

Call on God means to ask God for something and expect Him to act.  Talking God's word means nothing; it's by living by God's word that counts.    True wisdom in biblical thought is based on the "fear of the Lord".  This psalm has five parts (1) the praise of God who shines forth from Zion (verses 1-3); (2) a vision of the coming of God the great Judge (verses 4-6) (3) the instructions of the great Judge to His people concerning sacrifice (verses 7-15); (4) the rebuke of the great Judge on the wicked (verses 16-21); (5) the words of the great Judge on condemnation and salvation.  (verses 22,23)

Today's Hymn: "Jesus, Mighty God"

Jesus, Mighty God  Our Rock, Our Fortress, Our Defense
Your conquering arm will be our strength
O God of power and righteousness
And every foe will tremble at Your Name
And every foe will tremble at Your Name

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  Thank You for answered prayer.  Thank You for the honor and priveledge and honor to come boldly before Your throne Abba Father and lay our request at Your feet.  Help us Holy Spirit that as we study The word of God that we might apply it's message and teachings to our hearts that we might not sin against Thee.
                                                                                                                                       Amen

Bible Scripture for Tuesday 24 May 2011

"Greeting Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Meditation on Wealth and Wickedness"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 49:1-20
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 49:15  "But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, For he shall receive me."

This psalm reads almost like a passage from the Book of Proverbs (another favorite old Testament Book of mine), with it's bold contrast between the destinies of wicked and righteous.  It addresses an age old question: the prosperity of the wicked.  The psalmist lived in a day when MANY evil men were boasting of their wealth.

This psalm was therefore written to enable God's people to raise above the ungodly drive for riches.  There is first an invitation to listen: the poet calls on all men because the psalm has a universal application.  Second, he demonstrates how woefully inadequate riches are: on the day of one's death they cannot be redeemed.  Finally, the divergent destinies of the wicked and the righteous are vividly stated: the wicked man has no hope beyond this life, but the righteous man will be resurrected to eternal life.

This psalm has five parts: (1) a call for understanding (verses 1-4); (2) a declaration of the vanity of trusting in wealth (verses 5-9); (3) a declaration of the worthlessness of possessions after death (verses 10-12); (4) a description of God's redemption (verses 13-15); (5) the conclusion that there is no need to fear the rich (verses 16-20).

Today's Hymn: "My Hope Is Built On Not Less" (verse 2)

When darkness seems to hide His face, I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and storm gale, My anchor holds within the veil
On Christ the solid rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How we as your children do rest our faith on Your unchanging grace.  When we have the stormy parts of our life's, how we depend on You to pick us up and carry us through.  Just as You walked on the water Lord, We want to walk in the Light of Your Glory.  May we always keep our feet on the solid rock Lord, which is You.
                                                                                                                                         Amen

Bible Scripture for Monday 23 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Song of Zion"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 48:1-14
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 48:14  "For this God, Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide even to death."

Psalm 48 unites with Psalm's 46 and 47 to form three great praises to God for His kingship and His love for the holy city of Jerusalem.  The emphasis here on Jerusalem speaks of these palms as "Songs of Zion".

This song calls for the people to offer reverent praise to their Lord.  It describes the glory of the city of Jerusalem which has been delivered by God from her enemies.  The city of God is praised, and her attackers are defeated.  Therefore, her people praise the Lord for His loving kindness.

This psalm has three parts: (1) a celebration of God's greatness in the holy city of Zion (verses 1-3); (2) a description of the gathering of the kings and the peoples to witness God's rule (verses 4-11); (3) a celebration of God's greatness in the holy city of Zion (verses 12-14).

Today's Hymn: "Love Lifted Me"

I was sinking  deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore
Very deeply stained within, sinking to raise no more;
But the master of the sea heard my depairing cry,
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I
Love lifted me! (even me), Love lifted me! (even me)
When nothing else could help, Love lifted me!

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How thankful we are as your children that you protect us and five us the victory.  How we Thank You for the victory over sin, death and the grave because of what You Son Jesus Christ did on the Cross of Calvary when He shed His blood for our sins.  How thankful we are that You have lifted us from the miry of our sinful nature and that we are safe in your arms.

Bible Scripture for Sunday May 22 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Celebrating God's Universal Rule"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 47:1-9
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 47:2  "For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great king over all the earth."

Psalm 47 is one of the six psalms of the divine kingdom, the psalm celebrates the Lord's kingship over all the earth.  It begins with a universal call to praise Israel's God.  This is reinforced with reasons: He is an awe-inspiring God, He redeemed Israel and settled them in their land and He presently is ruling in Israel.

A second call renews the need for praise.  it is likewise reinforced with a reason: the revelation that His kingship is destined to be universal.  This psalm presents the joy of the people over the fact that the great King's rule means the end of all inequity, warfare, and trouble.

This psalm has three parts: (1) a call to shout in triumph at the coming of the King (verses 1-4);
(2) a call to shout in triumph at the enthronement of the king (verses 5-7); (3) a call to rejoice in the rule of the king (verses 8,9).

Today's Hymn: "My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less"

My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetness frame, But wholly trust in Jesus' Name
On Christ the solid rock I stand, All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

Heavenly Father Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How we as Christians indeed built our hope on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness.  May we clap our hands and sing joyful songs unto You Our Lord and Our Savior.  How awesome You are Abba Father and may we always have reverence for You Almighty God.

Bible Scripture for Friday 20 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the  Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "In Praise of Who God Is"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 46:1-11
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 46:1  "God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble."

This psalm as a psalm of trust rejoices in the deliverance that the Lord gives His people in the midst of a fearsome battle or siege.  Martin Luther's Reformation hymn, "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God", was based on psalm 46.

In this psalm the psalmist praises God for the help that he gives, His presence now, and the future peace He will establish.  This psalm has three parts: (1) a celebration of God as our defense even though the earth is moved (verses 1-3); (2) a celebration of God as our defense even the nations rage (verses 4-7); (3) a celebration of God as our defense even when the Lord brings His judgment.

Today's Hymn: "Lord I'm Coming Home"

I've wandered far away from God, Now I'm coming home;
The paths of sin to long I've trod, Lord, I'm coming home.
Coming home, coming home, never more to roam
Open wide Thine arms of love, Lord, I'm coming home.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit   How thankful we are that we have in You a Mighty Fortress.  We have in You strength and power.  How thankful we are that we have Your protection.  May we EXALT Thee, PRAISE Thee and HONOR Thee and bring GLORY to Your Name which is above every name.

."Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Praise at a Royal Wedding"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 45:1-17
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 45:6  "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,  A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom."

Psalm 45 is a royal psalm--a royal wedding song that celebrates human marriage in such a grand manner that the New Testament writers applied it to the great King Jesus as well.  Like many other psalms, this one not only portrays the joy of human marriage, but also describes prophetically the glorious reign of Jesus.  This psalm was composed by the sons of Korah.

This psalm praises the royal groom, followed by advice for the king's bride and a wedding benediction.

This psalm has four parts: (1) Introduction of the "good theme" (verse 1); (2) wedding wishes for he great king (verses 2-9); (3) wedding wishes for the beautiful bride (verses 10-15); (4) concluding blessing on the king (verses 16,17).

Today's Hymn: "Crown Him with Many Crowns"

Crown Him with many crowns, the lamb upon His throne
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but it's own;
Awake, my soul, and sing of him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King through eternity

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,  How thankful we are as Christians to have such a loving, caring, gracious God.  How great it is to have Jesus and His unending love.  May our souls sing out to the lamb of God who was, who is and is to come.

Bible Scripture for Wednesday 18 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "The Prayer of a Puzzled People"
Today's Scripture Reading" Psalm 44:1-26
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 44:25,26  "For our soul is bowed down to the dust; Our body clings to the ground.  Arise for our help, and redeem us for Your mercies sake."

Psalm 44 is lament of the community, a collective sigh of the people of Israel for God to help them in a time of great national stress.  The psalm also presents an occasion for a rehearsal of god's great deeds in the Exodus, the major saving action of God in the old Testament.

God is the source of Israel's victories over her enemies.  Yet the nation experiences defeat.  Defeat would have been understandable if Israel had denied God, but at this time God's people have been faithful to Him and have kept His law.  All God's puzzled people can do as they cry out, "WHY" is urge the Lord to act for them soon.

This psalm has five parts: (1) a rehearsal of God's deliverance of Israel in the past (verses 1-3); (2) a statement of confidence in God the great King (verses 4-8); (3) a lament of the people (verses 9-12); (4) a protect of innocence of the people (verses 13-22); (5) a petition of the people (verses 23-26).

Today's Hymn: "Christ Receiveth Sinful Men" (verse 1)

Sinners Jesus will receive, sound this word of grace to all
Who the heavenly pathway leave, all who linger, all who fall
Sing it o'er and over again, Christ receiveth sinful men
Make the message clear and plain, Christ receiveth sinful men

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How thankful we are that Jesus does receive the sinful men and women who come to Him with true repentance of their sins.  How thankful we are that the second we ask for forgiveness Jesus keeps His promise and sends the Holy Spirit to lead, guide and teach us.  May we in our daily lives make the message clear and plain that Jesus does indeed receive sinful men and women.

Bible Scripture for Tuesday 17 May 2011

Today's Blog Title: "A Song of Yearning and Praise"
Today's Scripture Reading: "Psalm 42:1-11 and Psalm 43:1-5
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 42:8  "The Lord will command His loving kindness in the daytime, and in the night His song shall be with me---A prayer to the God of my life."

In many Hebrew manuscripts these two Psalms 42 and 43 are one.  The original poem was separated into the two poems we have today so they could more easily be used for worship in the temple.

In these two psalms the writer yearns for God as his enemies taunt him.  Although heavenly weighted down, he reminds himself to hope in God.  He cries out for vindication, deeply disturbed in his enemies success.  The writer determines to urgently seeks God's presence and finds renewed assurance from God.

The tone of voice used when we ask "why" tells so much.  There's a child's complaining "WHY".  There's the despairing adults anguished 'WHY", drawn out by life's unfairness. The repeated refrain, Why are you downcast, O my soul of psalm 42:5,11 is the despairing kind.  Yet there is a subtle shift in tone, as the question is repeated in Psalm 43:5.  This is the "WHY" of freedom rediscovered.  Why should we as Christians be downcast, when our hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness.

Psalm 42 has two parts: (1) a description of the psalms longing for God's presence (verses 1-4); (2) a description of the psalmist fear that God might no longer remember him (verses 5-11).

Psalm 43 has three parts: (1) a call for vindication from the Lord (verses 1,2); (2) a prayer for the psalmist return to the temple to worship God (verses 3.4); (3) a renewed call for hope in God (verse 5).

Today's Hymn:  "My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less"

My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus' blood and Righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly trust in Jesus' Name
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How indeed is my hope built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness.  May we as Christians, Abba Father, always remember that Your son Jesus is our solid rock in which we stand in our faith and trust in Him.  Strengthen and guide us Holy Spirit in our daily walk with You.
                                                                                                             Amen

Bible Scripture for Monday 16 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Blessings of the Merciful"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 41:1-13
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 41:12,13  "As for me, you uphold me in my integrity, and set me before your face forever.  Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting! Amen and Amen."

This psalm is a lament song.  Since it begins and ends with words of praise to God, it also may be called a psalm of praise.  The poem describes and speaks of a person suffering from serious physical illness.  Ultimately, it presents the victory of the Savior Jesus over His enemies, especially the great enemy Satan.

This psalm teaches that God will bless the mericful , even taking vengeance on their malicious enemies.  God remains faithful and merits praise.  The experience of David in this psalm could have occurred on many occasions in his life and is the sad reality of being forsaken by one's friend.  This experience became prophetic of the experience of another, the Lord Jesus, who was himself forsaken by a close associate "Judas".

This psalm has 4 parts: (1) an affirmation of confidence in the Lord's power to deliver the godly from distress (verses 1-3); (2) a description of David's distress (verses 4-9); (3) a renewed expression of hope in the Lord (verses 10-12); (4) a praise marking the end of Book 1 of the Psalms (verse 13).

Today's Hymn: "Child of the King"(verse 2)

My Father's own Son, the Savior of men
Once wondered on earth as the poorest of them
But now He is pleading our pardon on high
That we may be His when He comes by and by
I'm a child of the King, a child of the King
With Jesus my Savior, I'm a child of the King

Abba Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How grateful we are that because of your love for us was so great that You died the sinners death on the Cross and then marked our deliverance from the grasp of sin when You arose on that third day conquering death and sin and thus making us "a Child of the King".  Thank you for Your faithfulness and merits our praise forevermore.
                                                                                                                Amen

Bible Scripture and Hymn for Sunday 15 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Lament of a Dedicated Man"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 40:1-17
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 40:1,2  "I wait patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry.  He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps."

Psalm 40 is a psalm of declarative praise that moves into a psalm of lament.  This psalm is a remarkable example of how troubles and difficulties forced David to depend continually on the Lord.

Deeply thankful for all God has done, David has fully dedicated himself to the Lord.  Yet David cries out for mercy, for even total commitment has not given him an easy life.  Although 'poor and needy", David rejoices in the Lord, "my help and deliverer."  His petition is a plea for deliverance from his enemies, but it is wider than that.  It showed David's concern about the triumph of all righteous people.

This psalm has seven parts: (1) a report of deliverance (verses 1-3); (2) instruction to the people to commit their lives to the Lord (verse 4,5); (3) a confession about worship (verses 6-8); (4) a report to God of the fulfillment of the vow of praise (verses 9,10); (5) a renewed lament (verses 11,12); (6) a set of petitions for deliverance (verses 13-15); (7) continuing praise in the midth of trouble (verses 16,17).

Today's Hymn: "Victory In Jesus"

I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glory
How He gave His life on Calvary, to save a wretch like me;
I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood's atoning
Then I repented of my sins, and won the victory
O victory in Jesus, My Savior forever
He sought me bought me, with His redeeming blood;
He loved me 'ere I knew him, and all my love is due Him
He plunged me to victory, beneath that cleansing flood

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  Thank you for saving us from the horrible pit of sin.  Place in our hearts Lord a song of rejoicing and praise.  Open our eyes, our minds and our hearts to your voice and grant us understanding so that we can truly obey You.  Surround us with Your warmeth, Your comfort and Your strength.
                                                                                                            Amen

Bible Scripture for Saturday 14 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

I am sorry that these writings haven't been out in a few days but the site was down.  It is now back up "PRAISE GOD" so now I can get back to sending out GOD'S GOOD NEWS around the world.

Today's Blog Title: "Putting Pain in Perspective"
Today Scripture Reading: Psalm 39:1-13
Today's Key Verse: "And now Lord, what did I wait for?  My hope is in You.  Deliver me from all my transgressions; Do not make me the reproach of the foolish."

Psalm 39 is a wisdom psalm in the form of a psalm of individual  lament.  Psalm 39 is unusual in many respects.  It speaks of a determination to be silent against foes, whereas most psalms speak boldly against enemies.

Silent out of fear of the wicked, David asks God to help him sense the fleeing moments of life.  Now, admitting his pain is due to his sins and honoring God for His justice, David's hope is restored and he prays to God for relief.

This psalm ends with a request that God leave the psalmist alone, a stance that is alot like sections of the Book of Job.

This psalm has four parts: (1) a determination by the psalmist to be silent before his foes (verses 1-3); (2) a petition to God for help in view of the brevity of life (verses 4-6); (3) a petition for forgiveness and deliverance (verses 7-11); (4) a petition for God to leave him alone (verses 12,13).

Today's Hymn: "God Will Make A Way"

God will make a way, where there seems to be no way
He works in ways we cannot see, He will be my guide
Hold me closely to His side, with love and strength
For each new day, He will make a way, He will make a way.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  Thank you for making a way in my life to be close to You.  Thanking You for working in our life's in ways that we cannot see but we can feel.  Thank you Holy Spirit for the guidance that You provide to us each day.  May our life's so shine for You that others will see the light within us and may we ALWAYS give You the PRAISE and the GLORY for which You so RICHLY DESERVE.
                                                                                                                 Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Tuesday 10 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Trust In the Lord and Do Good"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 37:1-40
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 37:39,40  "But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in time of trouble.  And the Lord shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, Because they trust in Him."

"This is a wisdom psalm.  It's simple message is to maintain PATIENCE in the midst of troubles.  God's people can have such PATIENCE because they know that their eternal reward will abundantly surpass any temporal troubles.

David in this psalm teaches believers how to survive in the land of the wicked.  A serious of proverbs instructs us, giving way to promises that the wicked will be punished.  God upholds the just, despite the intent of the wicked to harm them.

How is the believer to respond to wicked individuals?

                 Don't                                                        Do
Fret (brood)  verse 1                     Trust in the Lord   verse 3
Be envious  verse 1                       Go good  verse 3
Fret  Verse 7                                  Enjoy your blessings  verse 3
Be angry  verse 8                          Delight in the Lord  verse 4
Fret  verse 8                                   Commit way to God  verse 5
                                                                  Trust in Him  verse 5
Be still before God  verse 7
Wait PATIENTLY for Him  verse 7

The anger in 37:8 is what most of us would call "righteous indignation."  It is clearly anger directed at the right thing--wicked wrong doing.  But here angry is linked with the repeated concept of "fret".  This is no sudden surge of anger that passes away.  This is smoldering anger, a hostile resentment that we nurture and in time dominates our attitude toward wrongdoers.  This is the anger we must release to replace with a perspective shaped by a quite trust in God.  God doesn't expect us to remain passive while we wait for Him to act.  He tell us to be active in doing good.

This psalm has four major parts: (1) the need for PATIENCE in light of the apparent success of the wicked (verses 1-11); (2) the need for PATIENCE in light of the final judgment of the wicked (verses 12-22); (3) encouragement for the righteous in view of the role of the wicked (verses 23-33); (4) a renewed call for PATIENCE in view of the apparent success of the wicked (verses 34-40)

This psalm concludes appropriately with an underlying affirmation of faith and trust in the unchanging character of God.

Today's Hymn: "I Take Refuge In You"

Turn to me and be gracious to me, Lord.  Touch my heart for I am broken.
In Your mercy come and heal my distress, and forgive all my sin,
Lord forgive all my sin
I take refuge in you.  Yeshua, I find comfort in you.
You alone are God, my deliverer, In the shelter of Your arms I take refuge in You
Messiah, I find comfort in you.  Everyone who hopes in Your steadfast love
We'll find a place of refuge in you

Bible Scripture for Monday 9 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Word About the Wicked"
Today's Scripture Reading: "Psalm 36:1-12
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 36:9  "For with You is the fountain of life; In your light we see light."

The theme of this psalm is certainly the loving kindness of God.  God gives David a word about the wicked.  The righteous find relief in God's unfailing love.  That love protects the upright from hostility of evil men.

The wicked persist in doing evil with no pangs of conscience and no sense of impending judgment.  David reminds us that those with no sense of responsibility to God for their actions, or show no fear of punishment, cease "to be wise and to do good."  The increasing brutal crimes in our society remind us how much we need to experience God's protective love.

This psalm has three main parts: (1) David first describes the rebellious sinner (verses 1-4) (2) The blessedness of the righteous man (verses 8-9) (3) A prayer that the righteous man may be protected from the wicked.

Today's Hymn: "Blessed be the Lord God Almighty"

Father in Heaven, how we love You, we lift Your name in all the earth.
May Your kingdom be established in our praises, as Your people declare Your mighty works.
Blessed be the Lord God Almighty, Who was and is, and is to come;
Blessed be the Lord God Almighty, Who reigns forevermore.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How we thank you that as Christians we have Your protection around us.  Help us in our daily lives to show others You in us that we might not be a stumbling block to those who do not know you.  May we always lift Your name up high Lord and with our praise declare Your mighty works.
                                                                                        Amen

Today's Blog Title: "The Virtuous Wife"
Today's Scripture Reading: Proverbs 31:10-31
Today's Key Verse: Proverbs 31:26  "She opens her mouth with Wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness."

Today's Scripture Verses emphasizes a different quality about the excellent wife: (1) she is rare (2) trustworthy (3) constant in her love (4)industrious (5) thrifty (6) self starting (7) willing to do hard work (8) willing to work long hours (9) willing to do monotonous work (10) compassionate (11) prepared for the future (12) a good seamstress (13) married to a leader (14) an entrepreneur (15) not swayed by circumstances (16) wise and kind (17) duty-conscious (18) blessed by her family (19) not satisfied with the mediocre (20) a woman of God (21) praiseworthy (22) A woman of means (23 a woman of great skill and abilities.

She is a woman of God who is enterprising and deciated to her home.  Perhaps the statement on being the excellent wife is placed at the end of the Book of Proverbs because she, above all others, will be most able to demonstrate the principles of wisdom in the house.

                                                   "A Mother's Love"

A Mother's Love is like an island, in life's ocean vast and wide
A Mother's Love is a peaceful quite shelter, from the wind, rain and tide
A Mother's Love is bound on the north by Hope, By patience on the west
By tender counsel on the south and on the east by rest
A Mother's Love is like a beacon of light, that radiates faith, truth and prayer
And through the changing scenes of life, I find a haven in a Mother's Love.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Holy Spirit,  Today as we honor Mothers it is my prayer that you will bless each Mother throughout the world.  I thank you for my Mom who is such a godly woman and who continues to be a blessing to me.  May we honor and respect our Mothers for all that they do for us, and for there continuing love and being that quite shelter in this thing that we call life.

Bible Scripture for Saturday 7 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Cry for Justice"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 35:1-28
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 35:9  "And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD, It shall rejoice in His salvation."

This psalm is a psalm of lament.  It is the cry of petition of a man falsely accused.  It may date back to when David was being pursued by Saul.  David in this psalm calls God to his aid against enemies who have attacked him without just cause.  David prays God will not be an onlooker but will rescue him as justice requires, sure the He will be exalted in David's vindication.

In Matthew 35:11-16, Jesus taught that we are to love our enemies.  While this command is not found in the Old Testament, David had surely understood and applied this concept taught by Jesus many hundreds of years later.

We as Christians should not try and get revenge on our enemies.  God will balance the moral books.  Our role as a child of God is to follow the teachings of Jesus and follow David's example and do our enemies good.

Today's Hymn: "He Is Exalted"

He is exalted, the King is exalted on high, I will praise Him
He is exalted, forever exalted, and I will praise His name
He is the Lord, Forever His truth shall reign;
Heaven and earth, rejoice in His Holy Name
He is exalted, the King is exalted on high.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  As we serve you and do Your will in our lives, may be exalt You and praise your name which is above every name.  You are the King of kings and Lord of Lords and we find our strength and comfort in You.  Protect from the evil forces of this world that try to do us harm.  May we forgive our enemies as You instructed us to do in Your Holy Word.
                                                                                                                                             Amen

Bible Scripture for Friday 6 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Righteous Man Plea For Deliverance"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 34:1-22
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 34:4  "I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all of my fears."

Psalm 34 is a wisdom Psalm and a psalm of praise.  David praises the Lord for His goodness to him and calls on the us to "taste and see the Lord is good.  Taking the role of a teacher, David urges his people to do good, assuring them that God supervises the results of their choices and responds to the cry of the righteous.

Verse 8 says to "taste and see".  Taste is an important figure of speech in the Bible.  Everywhere it's used figuratively, taste suggests full participation in and/or experience of the the thing enjoyed.  Here in the verse is the invitation to "taste and see that the Lord is good" is a call to reply fully on Him and to experience the benefits of a personal relationship with God.

The descriptions of a blessed person found in this psalm are: (1) one who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked (2) whose sins are covered (3)  takes refuge in Him (4) makes the Lord his trust (5) has regard for the weak and possesses the strength of the Lord (6) have learned to acclaim the Lord (7) disciplined by Him (8) maintain justice (9) fear the Lord (10) blameless for they keep the Lord's statutes (11) whose help and hope is in the Lord.  These are the qualities that bring us the blessings God is so eager to pour out to His own.

The fear of the Lord in verse 11-16 means "to show respect for God".  God actively observes our actions and so orders the consequences of our moral choices and that good is rewarded and evil is punished.  Learning to fear the Lord  means in part to respect God enough that we choose to do what is right and leave the results to Him.

Today's Hymn: "Most Holy One"

Holy One, Most Holy One, Your ways are higher than mine.
Holy One, Most Holy One, May Your ways be mine.
Your ways are higher that the mountains, Your love is deeper than the sea
Your mercy, flowing like a fountain, has touched my heart and made me free
Holy One, Most Holy One, Your ways are higher than mine
Holy One Most Holy One, May Your ways be mine.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,  How thankful we are are to you that Your ways are   higher than the mountains, that your love is deeper than the deepest sea, that your never ending mercy flows like a river and my acceptance of You has indeed set me free.  Bless us Abba father as we seek to do Your will and live our lives for Thee.
                                                                                                                   Amen

Bible Scripture for Thursday 5 May 2011

'Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Praise for God's Faithfulness"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 33:1-22
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 33:20-22  "Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield, For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name.  Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, Just as we hope in you."

This psalm is a psalm of descriptive praise.  The psalmist calls for spontaneous praise to God, the dependable Creator and shaper of history.  God has shown His loyalty to His people, and God's people hope joyfully in Him,

Praise is appropriate because: (1) God's Word is true (trustworthy), (2) He is Himself is faithful in all He does (3) He loves justice (4) Earth is filled with expressions of His love (5) He created all things (6) He sustains all things (7) He shapes history to accomplish His purposes (8) He chose Israel as His inheritance (9) He watches (pays close attention to) all humanity (10) He guards those who fear him (11) He believers from death all those who hope in Him.  With all that, how could we not praise such a wonderful God.

This psalm is an important one for people who are waiting.  We have not yet received what we yearn for.  But because we know God is dependable, we remain optimistic and are filled with joy.  We as believers always have hope.

This psalm has 4 parts: (1) A call for the righteous to praise God, in view of His righteous acts in creation (verses 1-7) (2) A call for the nations to praise God, in view of His sovereign work in creation (verses 8-12) (3) A call for the people to praise God, in view of His care of creation (verses 13-19) (4) A concluding affirmation of confidence in God (verses 20-22).

Today's Hymn: "Everlasting Father"

Everlasting Father, Ruling now in holiness above
Everlasting Father, Lord of truth and perfect love
Everlasting Father, All the angels bow before your throne
Everlasting Father, All creation worships you alone
We worship You, We worship You
We worship You, our Father
We worship You, we worship you;
We worship You, Almighty God

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit   How we as believers love to praise you and honor and glorify Your Holy Name.  Lord, You are dependable in Your word and works.  You are just and loyal in dealing with your children.  We thank you for the joyful hope that we have in You.
                                                                                                                                              Amen

Scripture Reading for Tuesday 3 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "The Blessings of Forgiveness"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 32:1-11
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 32:5  "I acknowledge my sin to you, And my iniquity I have not hidden.  I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin."

Psalm 32 is a wisdom psalm and is also one of the great penitential psalms.  It is generally believed that this psalm has its origin in David's response to God following his infamous affair with Bathsheba.  It is one of the marks of the integrity of  Scripture that the low points as well as triumphs of its principle characters are described.  This psalm has five parts (1) a description of blessing (verses 1,2); (2) a report of David's agony before he confesses his sins (verses 3-5); (3) a lesson to others based on David's experience with the Lord (verses 6,7); (4)  an oracle from the Lord on righteous living (verses 8,9); (5) concluding praise to the Lord for His mercy.

In forgiveness God takes way the sin which makes the sinner guilty and releases us from the threat of punishment.  The Old Testament never explains how a Holy God is able to absolve those who believe in Him.  In the New Testament, forgiveness is linked with Jesus and His death.  Jesus sacrificed Himself taking, as our substitute, the punishment God has decreed for sin.  Forgiveness is a loving act of God in which, in view of Christ's sacrifice, He pronounces the guilt innocent and so takes away our sins forever.

Today's Hymn: "Give Thanks"

Give thanks with a grateful heart, Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ
His Son
Give thanks with a grateful heart, Give thanks to the Holy One
Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ
His Son
And now let the weak say,  "I am strong," Let the poor say, I am rich because of what the Lord has done for me
Give thanks with a grateful heart, Give thanks to the Holy one,
Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son
Give thanks, give thanks

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus , Holy Spirit  Abba Father how grateful we are to You because of Your great love for us that You sent Your Son Jesus to this earth to die our death upon that cross.  Holy Spirit counsel us and lead us to what is best for us.  Instruct us and teach us in the ways that we should go.
                                                                                             Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "No matter who else is hurt, the principle offense of any sin is always against the Lord"

Bible Scripture for Monday 2 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"
Today's Blog Title: "Exhortation of the Afflicted"
Today's Scripture Reading: Palm 31:1-24
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 31:3  "For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for your name sake, Led me and guide me."

Today's psalm is a psalm of lament. but has a strong element of trust that can be classified as a psalm of trust.  The psalms of trust grow out of the confessions of trust that occur in the songs of lament and the relationship between the two classifications are apparent

In this psalm David contracts the blessing of forgiveness experienced with the anguish of refusing to confess sin.  out of the experience he share advice and conveys the promise that God will guide the forgiven and surround the person who trusts in Him with unfailing love.

When we commit ourselves to the Lord, He commits Himself to us.  In verse five we read "Into your hands I commit my spirit....".  Jesus quoted this expression at the moment of His death on Calvary.  God's honor is not bound up in preserving us from death. but in preserving us through death.

In verse 17 "put to shame" indicates the disgrace of a public humiliation and the crushing blow to the individuals confidence this involves.  The psalmist publicly places his hope in God; being "put to shame" would be the result if God failed to deliver him.  Because our hope is in God, who does deliver, His name is glorified when He relieves our distress, and at the same time we vindicated in out faith.

Today's Hymn: ""Rejoice"

Great are You, Lord, we lift up our praise;
Holy are You, all creation sings.
Heaven and Earth rejoice in Your power;
Great are your mighty deeds, Great is the Lord, Our God!
Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice!
Rejoice! Rejoice!

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  Thank You for your constant and overwhelming love for us.  May Your praises be upon my heart and upon my lips.  How we appreciate the intimacy and being close to you and having your arms around us and guide us.
                                                                                                                       Amen

Bible Scripture for Sunday 1 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Psalm of Dedication"
Today's Scripture Reading: "Psalm 30:1-11
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 30:4,5:  "Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His. and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.  For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning."

Psalm 30 is a psalm of declarative praise, commemorates a time when God delivered David from mortal illness.  David's restoration to spiritual health moves him to praise God that His anger is momentary, while His love lasts forever..

Never let yourself feel so secure that you forget everything in this life depends on the favor and blessing of God.  Always trust in the Lord.

Today's Hymn: "Isn't He Good"

The view is clear from where I stand, I can see the imprint of God' hand.
From who I was to who I'll be, His love and grace has delivered me.
Guiding me, guarding me, leading me, loving me
Isn't He good? Isn't He good?
Hasn't He done all He said He would, all that we have, all that we are
Comes from above, Isn't He good?
Isn't He good, Isn't He good

Bible Scripture for Saturday 30 April 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "God's Power Unveiled in Nature"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 29:1-11
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 29:1,2  "Give unto the Lord, O you mighty ones, Give unto the Lord the glory due His name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness."

Psalm 29 is a worship psalm, but it is also  a royal psalm that uses striking language to assert the sovereign reign of the Almighty.

A thunderstorm  towers majestically above the Promised Land arousing David's praise and sparking the realization that it's the Lord who is enthroned in nature.  Surely so great a God is able to strengthen and bless His people.

This psalm has 3 parts:

(1) A call to the angels and all people to acknowledge  the supremacy of God (verse 1,2)
(2) A description of the living God as Lord over storms (verses 3-9)
(3) A blessing from God, which is enthroned as King on high, to His people (verses 10,11)

Today's Hymn: "Wellspring"

River of Joy flowing deep in my soul,
Wellspring of Life won't you come make me whole
Water the desert of my thirsting days,
Fountain of love, hear my sweet song of praise
I sing with joy as I rest in You, I  sing with faith as I trust in You
I sing with love as I worship You: Wellspring of Life, come and make me new

Heavenly Father. Lord Jesus Holy Spirit  As we look out at the beauty of your creation and the beauty it still shows even in this decaying sinful world we are grateful for your marvelous works and we look forward to the New Heaven and the New Earth were we will be amazed by Your handiwork.
                                                                                                            Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "The Lord will give strength,  and there is none other, that can empower His people"
