Bible Scripture Reading for Thursday 30 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Lessons from History"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 78:1-72
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 78:7 "That they might set there hope in God, and not forget the works of God,  But keep His commandments."

Psalm 78 was written by Asaph.  Asaph psalm fulfills each generations obligation to share knowledge of God with the next.  Because one generation forgot God they violated His covenant and suffered defeat.  So Asaph catalogs the wonderful things God has done in revealing Himself to Israel:  He hurled plagues against Egypt.  He disciplined and fed the wilderness generation.  He punished and forgave.  Yet Israel rebelled and turned to idols.  Yet later God would beat back His chosen peoples enemies and chose David (a man after his own heart) to shepherd His people.  How great the sin of man and how greater the grace of our Almighty God.

In 78:4 Asaph pinpoints what each generation needs to pass on to the next: "the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord."  We as Christians today should not hesitate to share what God has done in our lives with our children.  They will see and come to know Him through what we impart.

The statement in 78:32 "In spite of all this" means that it is not enough to be open about who God is and what He has done for us, it is also necessary to be honest about our own weakness and failings.  How important it is for our children to know that God is a loving and forgiving God.  He disciplines us when we sin, but never withdraws His love (Praise God).

Today's Hymn: "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" (verse 1)

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassion's, they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see
All I have needed Thy hand hast provided; Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me.

Heaven Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,  how we adore and praise for Your never ending love towards us.  May we as Christian parents and grandparents pass on to our children and grandchildren the wonderful things of what the Almighty God has done and continues to do in our lives.  May we walk in the way of the Lord whose strength will lift us up.
                                                                                                                                  Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Tuesday 28 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Mediating When Distressed"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 77:1-20
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 77:1 "I cried out to God with my voice--To God with my voice; And He gave ear to me."

Psalm 77 was written by Asaph.  It is a psalm of a troubled believer. It is marked by a sense of inward trouble and reflection.  The psalm is the voice of an individual, but since Asaph speaks on behalf of the nation of Israel, the psalm may best be called a national lament song.

The six questions in verses 7-9 reveal that the psalm was written at a time when God had apparently withheld His compassion from His people, even though no reason or details are given.  The remedy for the situation is the same for both the nation and the individual: remembrance of God's mighty deeds in the past.  Therefore, after expressing his lament, Asaph recalls that human opposition could not withstand God's mighty deliverance at the time of the Exodus; neither could natural powers stay His hand when He decided to act.  He realizes that God, who unleashed His mighty power to redeem Israel will surely act for them again.

Today's Hymn: "Tell Me The Story Of Jesus"

Tell me the story of Jesus, write on my heart every word
Tell me the story most precious, sweetest that ever was heard
Tell how the angels in chorus, sang as they welcomed His birth
"Glory to God in the highest! Peace and good tidings to earth."
Tell me the story of Jesus, Write on my heart every word
Tell me the story most precious, sweetest that was ever heard

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful that you are our Abba Father and that we can come to you and sit in you lap and be comforted by You.  How thankful we are that even when you are angry with us Your love far out weights Your angry once we come to You and ask forgiveness.  Tell us to realize that when we fail to come to You for forgiveness the burden of the sin weights upon our heart and interferes with our relationship with You.
                                                                                                                           Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Monday 27 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "In Praise of God's Power"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 76:1-12
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 76:11 "Make vows to the Lord your God and pay them; Let all who are around Him bring presents to Him who ought to be feared."

Psalm 76 was written by Asaph and is a psalm of praise with a strong focus on the fear of God.  God is known in His victories over Israel's enemies.  His just judgments teach people to fear Him and bow down.

Anger makes us draw back from people.  But God's anger is different.  It's intended to cause us to take Him seriously (to fear God) and move us to Him.  Even when directed against us, God's anger never overwhelms His love.  We as humans can trust even an angry God to welcome the guilty with open arms.

Today's Hymn: "Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior"

Pass me O gentle Savior, hear my humble cry
While on others thou are waiting, not not pass me by
Savior, savior, hear my humble cry
While on others thou art calling, do not pass me by

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,  how thankful we are Abba Father that your anger when directed toward us is not like our anger when we as humans hold grudges and do not let go of it.  How thankful we are that You our Heavenly Father does let go of Your anger, and that You do when we confess our sins, welcomes us back with open arms.
                                                                                                                      Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Saturday 25 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Celebrating God's Victory"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 75:1-10
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 75:1 "We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks!  For your wondrous works declare that Your name is near."

Psalm 75, is a grand psalm of praise.  It contains a lively exchange between the people, on psalmist, and the Lord.  This psalm also may be interrupted as God's answer to the questions that were presented in Psalm 74.

In this psalm, Asaph thanks God for appointing a time of judgment.  God is judge and is to be praised continually for His certain victory over the wicked.  This psalm has four parts: (1) the people's praise of God sense of His presence (verse 1); (2) God's announcement of His sovereign determination to judge the earth at the proper time (verses 2-5); (3) the peoples declaration that God is the true judge (verses 6-9); (4) God's declaration of His intention to bring final judgment (verse 10).

Today's Hymn: "Crown Him With Many Crowns"

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne
Hark! How the heavenly anthem drowns all music but it's own;
Awake, my soul and sing of Him who died for thee
And hail Him as thy matchless King through all eternity

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How exciting it is to be able to serve the One true, and Living Almighty God.  How exciting it is that The King of kings and Lord of Lords is on His throne and someday we will be taken home to be with Him, and to be able to gaze into His Loving Eyes, to hear Him speak and laugh, to feel his strong loving arms around us and sit down at His banquet table and spend all eternity singing praises to our Matchless King.

Bible Scripture Reading for Friday 24 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Prayer for Remembrance"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 74:1-23
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 74:12 "For God is my King from of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth."

Psalm 74 was written by Asaph and is a lament psalm of the community and a is a powerful presentation at Hebrew poetry at its best.  The poem describes God's actions in the past and the desire of His people for Him to act in the present.

Asaph begs God to remember His people in a time of national disaster (the invasion of Israel and the burning of the temple and the beginning of the Babylonian  exile)  He urges God to hurry and restore the honor due His name and to keep His covenant promises to aid His oppressed people.  This psalm ends with a passionate appeal for God to rise up and to act.

This psalm has five parts: (1) a community lament over a foreign invasion (verses 1-8); (2) a community complaint that there appears to be no hope (verses 9-11); (3) a recounting of God's historic victories against evil powers (verses 12-17); (4) a petition for God to remember His covenant and deliver His people (verses 18-21); (5) a call for god to act on His own behalf against
His enemies (verses 22,23).

Today's Hymn: "All Because Of Calvary"

All my sins are gone, all because of Calvary;
Life is filled with song, all because of Calvary;
Christ my Savior lives, Lives from sin to set me free;
Some day He's coming, O wondrous, blessed day
All, yes, all because of Calvary.

Abba Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit how thankful we are that once we become a child of the King that You shield us with Your Love and Your Mercy.  Help us Lord when we are attacked by the forces of this world to come yo You knowing that You are there for us.  Thank you for the prayers of others that help sustain us in times of trouble.  Help us Lord, to be mindful of the needs of others, and to remember them in prayer.

Bible Scripture Reading for Thursday 23 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Pondering the Prosperity of the Wicked"
Today's Scripture Reading: "Psalm 73:1-28
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 73:28 "But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your Works."

Psalm 73 is psalm of trust with some features of a wisdom psalm.  The psalm is different in that it tells a story about the psalmist's struggle with envy, doubts, and his faith in God.

The writer of this psalm, Asaph, confess envy of the carefree life of the wicked in the world.  He became bitter, feeling his own commitment to godliness was all in vain.  Then while worshiping, he realized the very prosperity of the wicked was "slippery ground," for they felt no need of God and were vulnerable to judgment.  He had God now and forever, and having God as his portion far outweighs a carefree life.

Asaph observes that sometimes the bounty achieved by the wicked does in fact throughout life.  He emphasizes every believer's need to test his or her own personal relationship with God.  That alone provides the ultimate satisfaction available to the believer who witnesses the affluence of the wicked.

This psalm has seven parts: (1) the temptation to be envious of the wicked (verses 1-3); (2) a description of the wicked (verses 4-14); (3) the realization that the end of the wicked is a balancing factor (verses 15-20); (4) the psalmist's regret over his uncertainty (verses 21-24); (5) a renewed  resolve to trust in God alone (verses 25,26); (6) the destruction of the wicked (verse 27); (7) a renewed trust in God (verse 28).

Today's Hymn: "There's Sunshine in My Soul"

There is sunshine in my soul today, More glorious and bright
Than glow in any earthly sky, For Jesus is my light
O there's sunshine, blessed sunshine, When the peaceful moments roll;
When Jesus shows His smiling face, There is sunshine in my soul

Heaven Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  Help us as Christians not to be envious of non believers who have more than we do.  We are as Christians, wealthy beyond compare because of the fact that we are sons and daughters of the King.  Help us to lay down our worries and concerns and to pick up our cross and to keep our eyes focused on You and Your Word. May Your light shine within us so that we can be a beacon in a dark and sinful world, and bring others to Your saving grace.
                                                                                                                                                 Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Wednesday 22 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Honoring the Messianic King"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 72:1-19
Today's Key Verses: Psalm 72:17-19 "His name shall endure forever; His name shall continue as long as the sun.  And men shall be blessed in Him; All nations shall call Him blessed.  Blessed be the lord God, the God of Israel, Who only does wondrous things!  And blessed be His glorious name forever!  And let the whole earth be filled with His glory.  Amen and Amen."

This psalm is the first of only two authored by Solomon.  It is a royal psalm that constitutes a prayer for the new king.  The psalm contains a very idealistic tone that could never be realized in a human being.  Its message becomes messianic in nature and point to Christ who alone can fulfill this ideal kingship.

Solomon's prayer to be endowed with wisdom prefigures the rule of Messiah, who will rule righteously and rule from sea to sea.  His commitment to rescue the needy wins Him an enduring name and brings God's unending praise.

The little word "for" directs our look back at the prediction, "All kings will bow bow to Him" (verse 11).  What makes the rule of this king so special?  He is special because He is dedicated to save the needy and rescue the oppressed.  He has God's own compassion and the power to act on others' behalf.  These verses will forever change our notion of "rule".  The central issue of rule is not the power to use others, but the willingness to serve them.

Today's Hymn: "Tell It To Jesus" (verse 1)

Are you weary, are you heavy hearted, Tell it to Jesus, tell it to Jesus
Are you grieving over over joys departed? Tell it to Jesus alone.
Tell it to Jesus, Tell it to Jesus, He is a friend that's well known,
You've no other such friend or brother, Tell it to Jesus alone

Heavenly father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,  How thankful we are Lord that we can come before you as our friend and as our Savior.  There is no one but You Lord who can give us that complete and heart felt joy.  How thankful we are to you Lord for Your Grace and Your mercy that saves us from all our sins and cleanses us from all our unrighteousness.
                                                                                                                 Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Tuesday 21 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "The Testimony of the Aged"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 71:1-24
Today's Key Verses: Psalm 71: 5;8 "For you are my hope, O God; You are my trust from my youth."  "Let my mouth be filled with your praise, and with Your glory all the day."

Psalm 71 is a psalm of lament with a major focus on the psalmist trust in God.  This psalm alternates between expressions of desperate need and resolute trust in the Lord.  Verses 5-8 are rich in with expressions of trust and communion with God.  You are hope (verse 5),  You are my trust (verse 5),  You are He, my praise shall be of You  (verse 6) You are my strong refuge (verse 7), Your praise and glory (verse 8).

The psalmist models the way believers should react to suffering.  A believer should completely trust the Lord in a difficult situation, but at the same time cry out to Him for deliverance.

The psalmist in verses 9 and 18 describes himself as an old man and one who speaks out of mature experience with the Lord.  He prays for help, but affirms His confidence in One he has found faithful from his youth up.  Although in danger, the psalmist will "always have hope and always praise God.  Despite life's troubles, he counts on God to restore him and commits himself to a life of praise.

Today's Hymn: "Take My Life And Let It Be" (verse 1)

Take my life and let it be, consecrated, Lord, to Thee
Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise
Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love
Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  May we as Your children always place our faith and confidence in You as Our Lord and Savior.  May we trust You in times of sorrow and trouble and to know that Thou are our strength and fortress.  May we praise and glorify you in everything that we do and say and bring glory to Your Name which is Above Every Name.

Bible Scripture Reading for Monday 20 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Petition for Rescue"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalms 70:1-5
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 70:4 "Let all those that seek You rejoice and be glad in You; And let those who love Your salvation say continually, "Let God be magnified!"

This brief, urgent prayer by David appeals to God to respond to the psalmist desperate need. Psalm 70 has been detached from the end of Psalm 40 where it appears in verses 13-17.  Perhaps the motive behind this was for separate use in the temple worship, just as one might take part of a hymn today and use it as a chorus.

There is a tremendous note of urgency in the psalm, with a total of 10 petitions in five verses.  David asks simply for deliverance for himself and retribution for his enemies.  We as Christians today, even in our dire moments, need do as David did and praise our Lord.  We need to remember and remind ourselves that the Lord is our only source of strength, help, and deliverance.

Today's Hymn: "Give Of Your Best To The Master"

Give of your best to the Master, give of the strength, of your youth
Throw your soul's fresh glowing ardor, into the battle for truth
Jesus has set the example, dauntless was He, young and brave;
Give Him your loyal devotion, give Him the best that you have
Give of your best to the Master; Give of the strength, of  your youth
Clad in Salvation's full armor; join in the battle for truth

Heaven Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,  May we like David when we are surrrounded by the enemy always come to You for the Your strength, help, and deliverance.  May we, as we go into battle for You Lord, put on the full Gospel Armor, that we might only be protected from our physical enemeis, but also from our spiritual enemy.
                                                                                                                       Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Saturday 18 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Prayer for Deliverance"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 69:1-36
Today's Key Verses: Psalm 69:29,30 "But I am poor and sorrowful; Let Your salvation, O God, set me up on high.  I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving."

Psalm 69, a song of lament, is more specifically a protest of innocence.  This highly messianic psalm presents a remarkable description of the suffering of Jesus Christ.  Psalm 22 describes Jesus' physical suffering, Psalm 69 focuses more on His emotional and spiritual suffering.  Like psalm 22 this psalm was written about a thousand years before the events it describes.  Both psalms begin with the sufferings of David but have their full meaning in the suffering of Jesus.

In this psalm David is surrounded by enemies eager to destroy him, and David reminds God that though he is a sinner he is suffering for the Lord's sake.  David begs God to rescue him and shares his despair.  He asks the Lord to cause his enemies downfall and expresses his confidence that God will act.

This psalm has seven parts: (1) a cry for deliverance that expresses the psalmist weariness (verses 1-3); (2) a description of the psalmist enemies (verse 4); (3) a lament that expresses the psalmist sense of alienation (verses 5-12); (4) a cry for deliverance from the mire (verses 13-18); (5) a lament that expresses the psalmist's reproach (verses 19-21); (6) a petition for God to bring His judgment on the wicked (verses 22-28); (7) a determination to praise the Lord (verses 29-36).

Today's Hymn: "How Firm A Foundation" (verse 2)

In every condition, in sickness, in health;
In poverty's vale, or abounding in wealth;
At home and abroad, on the land on the sea,
As thy days may demand, shall thy strength ever be

Heaven Father Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How we thank you that when we are sinking beneath the problems and stress of life, that You reach Your loving and strong arm to us and pull us out from beneath those waves of doubt, worry and stress.  Holy Spirit Thank You for keeping our eyes focused on Jesus and on the Cross of Calvary

Bible Scripture Reading for Friday 17 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Celebration of Triumph"
Today's Scripture Reading: "Psalm 68:1-35
Today's Key Verses: Psalm 68:19,20 "Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Our God is the God of salvation; And to God the Lord belong escapes from death."

David in this psalm celebrates God's power and goodness before reviewing His historic acts on behalf of Israel.  These culminate in God's choice of Jerusalem as the site of the sanctuary.  The result of this triumph is celebrated by God's people, who now call on Him to scatter their enemies and praise Him for His majestic rule.

The significance of this majestic hymn is two fold: (1) it reiterates in a beautiful way the Lord's election of Israel as a basis from which His rule and blessing flow to the earth and (2) it reveals a growing understanding of the person of God of Israel.  A study of the names of God alone in the psalm establishes the second point: (1) God (verse 1) (2) His name JAH (verse 4) (3) the Almighty (verse 14) (4) the Lord (verses 16) (5) the Lord (verse 19 which is a different Hebrew word than from the one in verse 16) and God the Lord (verse 20)

Psalm 16:18 is cited as an illustration of Christ's bestowing spiritual gifts on His church.  The Old Testament text pictures God as a victorious warrior returning to Mount Zion (he ascended up on high) leading Israel defeated foes in triumphal procession (he led captivity captive); He then distributes to Israel the spoils of war (gave gifts unto men).  Similarly, when Jesus returned to heaven ("He ascended up high"), He conquered satan and all his demonic horde ("he led  captivity captive"), and distributed gifts to His church ("gave gifts unto men).

This psalm has six parts:(1) a call for God to rise in judgment against the wicked (verses 1-3); (2) a call for the people of God to praise Him for His wonders and mercies (verses 4-6); (3) a review of the works of God on behalf of His people (verses 7-14); (4) a celebration of the city of God and His saving work (verses 1-20); (5) an anticipation of the final victory of God over all His enemies (verses 21-27); (6) an anticipation of the worship of God by the peoples of the earth (verses 28-35).

Today's Hymn: "Almost Persuaded" (verse 1)

"Almost persuaded", now to believe
 "Almost persuaded" Christ to receive
Seems now some soul to say
"Go, Spirit, go Thy way
Some more convenient day
On Thee I'll call."

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How thankful we are that through You we have the victory over the enemy.  How wonderful it is to know that You are faithful and good at the promises You make, and that You are there to carry us and strengthen us when we need it the most.  May You give us the words to go out and speak Boldly as Peter when he said, "Thou art the Christ, the son of the Living God."
                                                                                                                  Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Thursday 16 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ'

Today's Blog Title: "In Praise of God's Graciousness"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 67:1-7
Today's Key Verses: Psalm

Psalm 67 is a psalm of praise and serves as a marvelous invocation and doxology in worship.  This psalm calls the nations of the world to praise God and to join Israel in honoring the Creator.

The writer of this psalm builds on the famous "priestly blessing" of Numbers 6:24-26.  He asks that all of God's people might continually praise Him and that God might continue to pour out His blessings on them.

Face shine in Psalm 67:1 symbolizes favor; looking at someone approvingly.  The peoples in verses 2-5  would seem to indicate other nations.  The psalmist is eager for the blessing of salvation to be experienced by all.

Today's Hymn: "Love Lifted Me" (verse 2)

All my heart to Him I'll give, ever to Him I'll cling,
In His blessed presence live, ever His praises sing.
Love so mighty and so true, merits my soul's best songs;
Faithful, loving service, too, to Him belongs
Love lifted me (even me), Love lifted me (even me)
When nothing else could help, Love lifted me!

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit   How thankful we are to know You and to have You as our Lord and Savior.  As the psalmist in Today's Scripture Reading may we as Christians be eager to reach out and spread the Good News of Jesus Christ so that the blessings of salvation might be experienced by all.
                                                                                                            Amen

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Longing for God"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 63:1-11
Today's  Key Verse: Psalm 63:1  "O God, You are my God; Early will I seek you; My flesh longs for you, In a dry and thirsty land, Where there is no water."

Psalm 63 is a royal psalm with elements of the psalms of trust.  This palm is overflowing with thanksgiving rather than lament and petition.  David declares his longing for spiritual renewal, he gives voice to his trust in God, he expresses his thankful mood, he gives voice to his trust in God, and he announces his hope for the future.

David cries out his deep longing to experience God's presence.  He suddenly realizes that his soul finds that satisfaction through praise.  With the fresh touch of God's praise provides him, David has renewed confidence in the Lord and experience a unique joy.

Today's Hymn: "When The Roll Is Called Upon Yonder"

When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound, and time shall be no more
And the morning breaks, eternal, bright and fair;
When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore
And the roll is called up yonder, I'll be there
When the roll, is called yonder, When the roll, is called upon yonder
When the roll, is called up yonder, When the roll is called upon yonder I'll be there

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How thankful we are as Christians that the moment we excepted You into our lives the joy that we received and we experience because of You.  How thankful we are Abba Father that when the roll is called up yonder we shall be there to spend all eternity with you basking in Your Love and grace.
                                                                                                                  Amen

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Rest In God"
Today's Scripture Reading:  "Psalm 62:1-12
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 62:7 "In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, and my refuge is God."

Psalm 62 is a wisdom song urges silent confidence in the victory of God  over all enemies because salvation is found only in Him.  The expressions of trust found in verses 1, 2, and 5-7 are rich with figures that picture the absolute stability of being found in God.  At least five nouns describe God's protection: rock, salvation and defense in verse 2, glory and refuge in verse 7.

David finds rest in God from the turmoil caused by his enemies.  He affirms his trust in God and calls us to trust Him too. Because of who God is, we can.  In verses 11-12 "one thing...two things" are the two most powerful and wonderful verses in the entire Bible.  What a joy it is to know and to learn by experience, that God is strong and that He is loving.

Today's Hymn: "My Hope is Built On Nothing Less" (verse 3)

His oath, His covenant,His blood,  Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way, He then is all my Hope and Stay
On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How wonderful it is for us as Christians to be able to stand on Christ whom is the solid ground and that He is our Hope and Stay.  May we always remember that our Abba Father is always strong and that He is always loving and saves us by His grace.
                                                                                                             Amen

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Prayer for Protection"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 64:1-10
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 64:10  "The righteous shall be glad in the Lord and trust in Him,  All the upright in heart shall glory."

Psalm 64 is basically a a wisdom psalm.  It contracts the righteous and the wicked, compares their destinies, and is itself a "meditation".  The psalm is a prayer that victious plots of wicked men against the righteous might fail.  It is a petition against the devices of the wicked and an expression of the certainty of divine retribution.

David in this psalm prays for protection from enemies who plot against the godly.  When God brings them to ruin all will fear Him, and the godly will rejoice.  In fiction, the criminal gets away with the perfect crime.  But in real life a criminal may avoid man's courtroom, but none will escape the Justice of God.

Today's Hymn: "Lord I'm Coming Home"

I've wasted many precious years, Now I'm coming home;
I now repent with bitter tears, Lord, I'm coming home
Coming home, coming home, nevermore to roam
Open wide Thine arms of love, Lord, I'm coming home

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How thankful we are a Your children that when we finally come home to you and accept you as our Savior that we are embraced  in Your loving arms and never more to roam.  May we walk out daily lives lives with the light of Christ shining within us and may we hide Your words in our hearts that we might sin against Thee.
                                                                                                                              Amen

Scripture Reading for Wednesday 15 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Psalm of Thanksgiving"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 66:1-20
Today's Key Verses: Psalm 66:1-4  "Make a joyful shout to God, all the earth!  Sing out the honor of His name; Make His praise glorious.  Say to God, 'How awesome are your works! Through the greatness of your power Your enemies shall submit themselves to You.  All the earth shall worship You, and sing praises to You; They shall sing praises to Your name.'"

Psalm 66 is a psalm of praise, and offers significant contributions to our understanding of the value of Biblical worship.  In the course of this psalm, the poet offers descriptive praise, praising God for who He is and what He does.  It also uses declarative praise, praising God for specific answers to prayers.  We as Christians today need to use this psalm to thank and praise God for who He is and what He does in our lives each day.

We as a God's children need to praise God joyfully with our words, our songs and our actions.  Here in this psalm the psalmist was representing the individual believer and commits himself to praise God and pry to Him.  When we can see God's hand in our pain and praise Him for our suffering, we are becoming mature.  The first twelve verses of this psalm speaks of "we".  In verse thirteen psalm shifts to "I".  When each of us as Christians are moved to heartfelt worship then the church honors God.

Today's Hymn: "The Old Rugged Cross"

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross, where the dearest and best, For a world of lost sinners was slain.
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it someday for a crown

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,  How grateful we are for deep awesome power.  How thankful that we as  Christians are to be able to come boldly before Your throne and lay our petitions and our interceding prayers before you.  How wonderful it is to experience that unique joy that we have as children of the King.
                                                                                                                        Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Tueday 14 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Harvest Hymn"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 65: 1-13
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 65:5-7  "By awesome deeds in righteousness You will answer us, O God of our salvation, You who are confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of the far off seas; Who established the mountains by His strength, Being clothed with power; You who still the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the peoples."

Psalm 65 is a wisdom song but more particularly a creation song.  This psalm celebrates rainfall and the abundant harvest that bring the people prosperity.  It also addresses God in His entirety and presents Him the God who forgives, the God who intervenes in history and the God who provides.

The psalm is a prophetic psalm, even though it is not recognized in that regard.  The prophetic element is in the first verse.  There is till a vow of praise of praise yet to be paid in that all creation is waiting to praise the Lord when He finally appears in glory.

We as Christians need to be thankful that every good rain and every full harvest is a blessing from God and a day is coming where good rains and harvest will be greater than ever before.  We should always be thankful and deeply aware of the awesome power of God that he exercises on our behalf.

Today's Hymn: "There's Something About That Name"

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus  there's something about that name
Master, Savior Jesus, Like the fragrance after the rain
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Let all the earth proclaim
Kings and kingdoms will all pass away, But there's something about that Name

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How we are thankful that you provide the rain and the sun upon the just and unjust.  How in awe are we of Your awesome power and strength.  We Thank You Heavenly Father, for Your never ending love for those that have chosen You and even to those who have not chosen you, You continue to knock on their hearts door seeking to come in.
                                                                                                                                                    Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Friday 10 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

We have covered 61 chapters so far in the Book of Psalm.  In studying this Book it has uniquely enriched  my understanding of my relationship with our Abba Father.  I have found in studying this Book that the writers have openly shared doubts, fears, joys and triumphs.

They express a deep sense of sin, and overwhelming relief for forgiveness, confidence and praise of those who are united by faith to the Lord.   Individual believers have turned to the Book of Psalm for Comfort and Inspiration.  Today's writing is for those who are going through storms of your life, for those who are having family or martial problems, financial problems, discouragement or fears.  It is my prayer that has you look at these areas in the Book of Psalms that you may find  Comfort and Encouragement and that the Holy Spirit will give you that Strength like an eagle to soar to Him and receive the blessings and comfort of our Abba Father.

When I was with a friend at lunch yesterday she said to me, "When I am having problems in my life, I run and hop on the lap of my Heavenly Father and lay my head on His chest with His strong , loving arms around me and listen to His heart beat that says "I Love You, I Love You".   Wow  what a statement of faith.

Bible Scripture Reading for Thursday 9 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone on the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "The Cry of the Faint"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 61:1-8
Today's Key Verses: Psalm 61:1-4  "Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer.  From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.  I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings."

Psalm 61 is a royal psalm attributed to David and it has elements of lament and trust.  This psalm would have fit into many occasions in David's life when he was distraught from fighting his numerous enemies.  In this psalm he offers his petition, he expresses his trust, he prays his continuing kingship, and he offers a vow of thanksgiving to be delivered when God answers.

David confesses his weakness and seeks strength in God.  His past experience with God encourages him and he promises to praise God in the future.  We as Christians, need to be like David and have that same confidence to come before God and ask for forgiveness not matter what the sin so that God can once again pour out His blessings to us and Thank Him for His continued answer to prayer.

Today's Hymn: "I Need Thee Every Hour" (verse 2)

I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby
Temptations lose their power when Thou art nigh.
I need Thee, O I need Thee
Every hour I need Thee
O bless me now, my Savior
I come to Thee

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  Help us to bring our petitions and our sins before Thee to seek your forgiveness and in doing so You might pour out Your blessings to us.  Help us when we are tempted to come to You and seek Your help because temptation lose their power when you are near.  Help us Lord to keep our eyes, our hearts and our minds always in tuned to you and Your direction for our lives.
                                                                                                               Amen

Bible Scripture Reading for Wednesday 8 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "A Prayer for Aid in War"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 60:1-12
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 60:11,12 "Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless.  Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies."

Psalm 60 is a psalm of community lament and expresses David's great faith in the eventual victory he would find in the Lord.  In this psalm , we hear the voice of Almighty God, breaking into this psalm itself and pronouncing His judgment of David's enemies.

Since the tone of the psalm is military in nature, it is possible that this poem was used in military training .  Along with his training to his men on military weapons and tactics David would give ongoing instructions to his men about how to trust their Lord.

In this psalm God's displeasure assures defeat, but trust in His promises of victory is a solid basis of hope just as it is with us as Christians today.  Just as the song says, "My hope is build on nothing less than Jesus' Blood and Righteousness".

Today's Hymn: "I Need Thee Every Hour"

I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord
No tender voice like Thine can peace afford
I need Thee, O I need Thee,Every hour I need Thee
O Bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  Open our eyes Abba Father to the fact that as Your Children we do need Thee every hour.  Guide us, teach us and help us Holy Spirit to keep our eyes, mind and spirit focused on Jesus and on the Cross of Calvary.

Bible Scripture Reading for Tuesday 7 June 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Unshakable Trust"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 59: 1-17
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 59:16,17  "But I will sing of Your power; Yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.  To you, O my Strength, I will sing praises; For God is my defense, my God of mercy."

In this psalm David cries out as a persecuted innocent man.  Yet he remains confident that his enemies will not harm him, for God will bring them down to demonstrate His royal sovereignty.  Though his enemies snarl at his heels, David continues to trust in God's love and he continues to praise God.

David in this psalm has a clear vision of God.  Our God today even in David's day is: (1) able to deliver (2) one who punishes the wicked (3) our strength and fortress (4) Earth's ruler and most of all (5) our Loving God.

This psalm has four parts: (1) a prayer for deliverance (verses 1-5); (2) a confident hope (verses 6-10); (3) a renewed prayer for deliverance (verses 11-13); (4) a renewed hope (verses 14-17).

Today's Hymn: "There's Sunshine In My Soul"

There is sunshine in my soul today, More glorious and bright
Than glows in any earthly sky, for Jesus is my Light
O there's sunshine, blessed sunshine, when the peaceful, happy moments roll;
When Jesus shows His smiling face, there is sunshine in the soul

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  May we as Christians as we live upon this earth continue to find in You, continued strength, defense and mercy.  May we in our act of faith sing praises to You for all that You do for us.  Thank you Jesus for being the light of our lives and bringing sunshine to our souls.
                                                                                                                       Amen

Today's Blog Title: "Against Unjust Judges"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 58:1-11
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 58:11 "So that men will say , "Surely there is reward for the righteous;  Surely He is God who judges in the earth.".

In this psalm David rebukes judges who pervert justice and calls on God to judge them.  The righteous can comfort in the certainty that ultimately God will reward them while punishing their oppressors.

This psalm has four parts: (1) a description of wicked judges who wreak havoc on the earth (verses 1,2); (2) a description of the wicked who continue in evil (verses 3-5); (3) a prayer for divine vengeance against the wicked (verses 6-9); (4) a promise that righteous will be vindicated (verses 9,10).

Today's Hymn:  "How Firm A Foundation" (verse 1)

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can he say than to you He hath said
You, who unto Jesus for refuge have fled?

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit   How thankful we are that you keep all your promises to us and that you are so faithful and just.  May we place the foundations of our life upon the solid rock of Jesus where when the storms of life prevail against it it shall not fall.

Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 57:1-11
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 57:2,3 "I will cry out to God Most High, To God who performs all things for me.  He shall send from heaven ad save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up.  God shall send forth His mercy and His truth."

David in this psalm triumphantly praises God for deliverance from Saul, thrilled that God "sends His love and His faithfulness."

This psalm has three parts: (1) a call for mercy in the midst of calamities (verses 1-3); (2) a confession of trust in the midst of trouble (verses 4-6); (3) a determination to praise God in the midst of the people (verses 7-11).

Today's Hymn: "All Hail The Power Of Jesus Name"

All hail the power of Jesus' Name! Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all
Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  How thankful we are as Your children that You faithfully send Your love and faithfulness when we call upon Thee.  Delivery us from the things of this world and help us to keep our focuses on You and on those things above.

Today's Blog Title: "The Antidote to Fear"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 56:1-13
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 56:3,4  "Whenever i am afraid, I will trust in You.  In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear.  What can flesh do to me?"

Fear and trust wage a fierce battle within as David faces enemies who conspire against him.  Trust wins out, as David remains confident that God is with Him.  Fear drove David into Philistine territory where he was recognized and had to pretend madness to escape.  The experience taught David lessons he shared here.

Fear is the anticipation that something terrible may happen to us.  Fear is a positive thing when it helps us avoid dangerous situations.  It's good to teach a child to be afraid to run out into the street.  But fear is negative when it keeps us from doing something we know is right, or moves us to do something that we know is wrong.  Everyone will feel fear.  How we handle it is what counts.

This psalm gives us helpful guidance.  (1) David felt fear, (2) Turned to God to express trust (3) Recalled God's self-revelation in Scripture, and (4) Determined not to expect evil, because God was with him.  It is not a matter of "if" we feel fear, but "when".  Yet when fear comes, it need not victimize us.  See fear as a fresh opportunity to trust God.

Today's Hymn: "Amazing Grace"

Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit Teach us to use fear in a way that we will express total and complete trust in You knowing that You are always with us and have nothing to fear.  Thank you for Your grace that saves me and cleanses me of all my sins.
                                                                                                                    Amen
