"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 30 July 2012"

Today's Blog Title:"Ruth's Redemption Assured"
Today's Blog Scripture Reading: Ruth 3:1-18
Today's Blog Key Verse: Ruth 3:9 "And he said, "Who are you?" So she answered, "I am Ruth, your maidservant under your wing, for you are a close relative."

In verse 1, Naomi once again returned  to the subject of "security" or "rest" which she had mentioned in Ruth 1:9.  In the first instance, she had asked God to provide her daughters-in-law the "rest" of marriage.  Now Naomi was determined to seek this "rest" for Ruth.

The thrusting floor mentioned in verse 2 was located in a public place.  Grain was threshed by tossing the crushed stalks into the air, for the wind to separate from the kernels of grain.  Boaz did this in the "evening," not night.

Naomi tells Ruth to "wash" and "anoint" herself and put on her best "garment" and go down to the threshing floor and not to make herself known until all the eating and drinking was done, for eating and drinking accompanied the festivity at the end of the harvest.  The best garment would refer to an outer garment that Ruth would wear to keep her warm in the night.

Naomi then instructs Ruth in verse 4, to remove the edge of Boaz's outer garment from his feet and lie down by his uncovered feet. Touching and holding the feet was an act of submission.  This was a daring and dramatic action that would call for a decision on his part to be her protector and likely, her husband.  Ruth came "softly," that is, "in secret", so that no one would see her. That she came at night was also a means of protecting Boaz from embarrassment in case he decided  not to exercise his duty as a close relative.

A "near kinsman" in verse 9 designates one of the social institutions among the Hebrews.  Two of his many family responsibilities are evident in the Book of Ruth.  (1) He was charged with redeeming family property that had been lost or was about to be lost by sale (2) He was obligated to marry the widow of the deceased near relative so as to raise up children to the name of the dead.  The law of near kinsman operated on the principle of degree of closeness of relationship.  Boaz brings both duties to bear as one issue in the case of Ruth in (Ruth 4:3-5).

Naomi's instructions to Ruth, to seek out Boaz apparently was in accordance with social propriety at that time, in that a widow could initiate proceedings.    The Lord had so moved in the lives of Boaz and Ruth that the duties of family institutions were reinforced by a genuine love for one another.  In Verses 11-14, Boaz took special measures to see that no impropriety would mark the occasion.

Ruth left at early dawn, in order to avoid anyone who might recognize her.  Boaz probably did not want anyone to misconstrue what had taken place.  In verse 15 Boaz once again, demonstrated loyal love by his gift of barley grain to Ruth and Naomi.  Boaz helped raise the barley sacks to Ruth's head, in order for her to carry it home to Naomi.

In verse 18, Naomi was confident that Boaz would see the matter through to its conclusion that same day.  Boaz, had repeatedly demonstrated that he was an upright and compassionate man, by his continuing provision for the two women.

Bible Scripture Reading

"Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 26 July 2012"

Today's Blog Title: "Ruth Meets Boaz"
Today's Blog Scripture Reading: Ruth 2:1-23
Today's Blog Key Verse: Ruth 2:12 "The LORD repay your work, and a full reward be given you by the LORD God of Israel, under whose wings you have come for refuge."

In chapter 2 of Ruth, we met Boaz, who is introduced as a relative of Naomi's deceased husband.  This is important, for if he had not been a relative, Boaz could not have qualified as a "kinsman redeemer."

We now see that Naomi and Ruth were now in the position of the "widow and fatherless" in Israel, for they had no one to care for them, and no means of support.  As it was the beginning of barley harvest, Ruth volunteered to go into the fields to collect whatever the workers missed.  Without planning it, she began work in a field belonging to Boaz, a relative of Naomi's dead husband.

When Boaz arrived, he welcomed her and invited her to keep working in his fields.  He also told his workman to make sure they left stalks of grain for her to gather.  With this help, Ruth was able to gather about 40 pounds of grain, which was an unusually large amount of grain for a reaper.

Naomi, immediately saw the significance, and realized that someone had purposely helped Ruth.  When Naomi discovered the man was Boaz, a near relative and that he would qualify to be a kinsman-redeemer, Naomi told Ruth to continue working in the field of Boaz.  Naomi already had began to hope, and to plan.

Today's Biblical Truth: "God is a rewarder of all those who diligently seek Him."

"Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 24 July 2012"

Today's Blog Title: "Naomi Returns with Ruth"
Today's Blog Scripture Reading: Ruth 1:1-22
Today's Blog Key Verse: Ruth 1:16-17 "But Ruth said: "Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; and wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, and Your God my God.  Where you die, I will die, And there will I be buried.  The LORD do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me."

Wow, what loyalty and devotion to Naomi, Ruth's mother-in-law.  Ruth was a Moabite who married Mahlon of the Juhahite family of Elimelech.  Widowed and childless she abandoned her family, country, and faith to accompany her mother-in-law, Naomi to Bethlehem.  Her radical actions continued, as she secured food for herself and Naomi, and summoned the relative Boaz to be their redeemer according to God's Word (Deuteronomy 25:5-10).

Boaz would marry Ruth, and she would bare a son, who became the great grandfather of Judah's greatest king, David.  The women of Bethlehem would exalt Ruth as the loving daughter-in-law who meant more to Naomi than seven sons, the ideal number, would have been (Ruth 4:15).  Her name later appears in Matthew's genealogy of Jesus (Matthew 1:5).

Her firm commitment in Ruth 1:16-17, "Thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God", brought a rich reward to the family, nation, and ultimately all mankind.  Ruth's faithfulness are evident throughout the Book of Ruth.  Ruth's own concern for Naomi is bound by a strong oath made before the "LORD" Himself.  The name "Naomi" carries with it the idea of "pleasantness and delight."  But in verse 20, her situation appeared to merit the name "Mara," "Bitter."

Naomi calls God by the well known patriarchal name "Shaddai," "The Almighty One" (Genesis 17:1; Job 5:17).  Despite her sorrow, she acknowledges the sovereignty of God over her life.

Today's Biblical Truth: "We as Christians need to be the kind of people who draw others to us through our friendship and our relationship to God."

Bible Scripture Reading

"Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 20 July 2012"

Today's Blog Title: "Introduction Into the Book of Ruth"

The Book of Ruth is one of the Old Testaments warmest and most encouraging books.  This  brief book takes its Name from the books main character, "Ruth," a Moabite woman, who chose to commit herself to her Hebrew mother-in-law, and to Israel's God.  This book, also demonstrates God's gracious concern for all mankind, Jews and Gentiles alike.  This book was also read at the Feast of Pentecost.

The key people in the Book of Ruth are:

Ruth: A Moabite widow who allied herself with God's people out of love for her Hebrew mother-in-law, and whose gracious character won her renewed hope and a place among the people of God

Naomi: A Hebrew woman who knew tragedy, but rediscovered happiness through the faithfulness of Ruth, her Moabite daughter-in-law

Boaz: A godly Hebrew man, a relative of Naomi, who accepted a kinsman's responsibility and married Ruth, to the benefit of all three.

The Book of Ruth assures the believer of God's continuing love for a helpless mankind and His willingness to meet man's needs.  It is an exciting story of true romance, this book also gives instruction in practical living in such things as personal morality, a genuine concern for the needs of others, and the necessity for personal godliness in the face of testing and adversity.

There is also a great deal of helpful information for today's Christian woman that can be found in the example of Ruth, whose virtues of godliness, purity, humility, honesty, fidelity, and thoughtfulness remain an exemplary standard for all women.

Boaz becomes for the Christian man, a model of God-given strength, honor, graciousness, courtesy, and compassion that can give encouragement for becoming a believing gentleman in the finest sense of the word.  Boaz exemplified the compassion and love of a redeemer.  His life is an illustration for us of the compassion of Jesus, who is our REDEEMER.

So as we read these 4 chapters of the Book of Ruth we will see how stunning it is, that God called a Moabite woman, not one of the chosen people to play an important role in the lineage of Jesus.  What clear evidence this is that in ancient times as in ours, God's love reaches out to all.

Bible Scripture Reading

"Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 18 July 2012"

Today's Blog Title: "True Worship and False"
Today's Blog Scripture" Isaiah 66:1-24
Today's Key Verse: Isaiah 66:13 "As one whom his mother comforts So I will comfort you; And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem."

The final chapter of Isiah and his final prophecy begins with the assertion, "Thus saith the Lord."  The passage points to the magnitude and immensity of God, who is greater than the heavens.  Thus "heaven" is His "throne" and "earth" His "footstool."  God is not limited to any "house" or "temple" made by man.  John tells us that in eternity, there will be no need for a temple, "for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it" (Revelation 21:22).  God's desire is to dwell in men and women who are of a "poor and...contrite spirit."  Thus Isaiah foresees the New Testament doctrine of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in the temple of man's body (1 Corinthians 6:19).

The Book of Isaiah ends with a fearful glimpse of final judgment.  Isaiah foresees a time when "those that escape" the Tribulation period will be sent "unto the nations" (Gentiles) to "declare" God's "glory" among them.  During the millennial kingdom, they will come to "Jerusalem" to worship Him.  "All Flesh" refers to the redeemed of the Lord from all nations who will "come to worship" Him.  The book ends with the awesome statement that the redeemed will "go forth, and look upon the carcases of the men that have transgressed against me."  Their suffering is described as being in the place where "their worn shall not die, neither shall their fire he quenched."  The scene described here is that of the redeemed of heaven in their final glorified state and of those who are lost forever in the Lake of Fire.  Thus Isaiah closes his prophecy with a stern reminder that there is a real heaven to be gained and a real hell to be avoided.

Today's Biblical Truth: "Spiritual transformation starts in the mind and heart."

Bible Scripture Reading

"Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for Monday 16 July 2012"

Today's Blog Title: "The Righteousness of God's Judgment"
Today's Blog Scripture Reading: Isaiah 65:1-25
Today's Blog Key Verse: Isaiah 65:17 "For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind."

In response to the prayer in chapter 64, God speaks to the Gentiles who have come to trust in Him.  "I am found of them and sought me not" refers to the unconditional election of the Gentiles as the bulk of the New Testament Church of God (Romans 10:20).  The Jews themselves are called a "rebellious people," but God still promises to bring a "seed out of Jacob...mine elect."  The language here is like that of Romans 11:1-5, where Paul insists that God has not forsaken His people Israel.  The references of the plain of "Sharon" and the "Valley of Achor" blooming abundantly, look forward to the prosperity Israel will enjoy during the Millennial Kingdom of Christ.

In verses 17-25, Isaiah now sees further into the future than any other Old Testament prophet, looking beyond the Millennial Kingdom to the "new heavens and a new earth (Revelation 21).  Thus the reader is suddenly thrust into the celestial future of the New Testament.  "Weeping and crying" shall be no more in verse 19, is repeated by John in Revelation 21:4 when he writes, "God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes...for the former things have passed away."

Today's Biblical Truth: "What God will create, should be more real to us than the sorrows we remember, and will soon forget."

"Greeings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 13 July 2012"

Today's Blog Title: "A Prayer For Help"
Today's Blog Scripture: Isaiah 64:1-12
Today's Blog Key Verse: Isaiah 64:8 "But now, O LORD, You are our Father; We are the clay, and you are the potter; And all we are the work of Your hand."

In chapter 64, Isaiah is pleading with God to "come down" and intervene in the affairs of nations.  God's presence is described as "melting fire" that causes the nations to "tremble."  Yet Isaiah realizes "we are all....unclean" (a technical terms for legal  impurity).  "All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags" describes the total depravity of mankind.  In this condition of sinful depravity, "there is none that calleth upon thy name."  Isaiah pleads with God not to judge "thy people" but to extend them mercy.

Have you ever heard someone say, "How can God judge so brutally?  How can He trample men like grapes?"  Isaiah asks the question, "How then can we be saved?"  The following verses in chapter 64 contain a complete though brief description of the impact of sin on human beings.  First, sin is habit forming: "We continue to sin against God's ways (verse 5).  Second, sin arouses the anger of God and directs it against us (verse 5).  Third, sin is defiling, making it impossible for us to approach Him (verse 6).  Fourth, sin so corrupts our character that even the best we can be is so fouled by base motives. Fifth, sin is destructive, shriveling us up from within and creating circumstances that sweep us away (verse 6).  Sixth, sin alienates us from God, creating a distaste for the Lord that keeps us from calling on His name (verse 7).  Seventh, sin causes God to hide His face from us and judge us (verse 7).

In view of all that sin has done to us, is it no wonder that Isaiah cries out, "How then can we be saved?" Paul in Acts 16:31 while in prison gave us the answer to that question when he told the jailer, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved."

Today's Biblical Truth: "Don't rely on the good you do, but on the good that God has been, is, and will always be."

Bible Scripture Reading

"Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 11 July 2012"

Today's Blog Title: "The LORD in Judgment and Salvation"
Today's Scripture Reading: Isaiah 63:1-19
Today's Blog Key Verse: Isaiah 63:7 "I will mention the lovingkindness of the LORD And the praises of the LORD, According to all the LORD has bestowed upon us, And the great goodness toward the house of Israel, Which He has bestowed on them according to His mercies, According to the multitude of His lovingkindness."

In having listed God's conditions for peace (chapters 58-59), and by having described the nature of that peace (chapters 60-162), Isaiah now describes the consummation of that peace (chapters 63-66.)  "Edom" represents all who hates Israel.  "Bozrah was Edom's capital city.  "Dyed garments," the color of "red" are reminiscent of Revelation 19:13: "And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God."

The red stained condition of the garments has been caused by His trampling "blood" in the "winepress" of God's judgment.  The "vengeance of God is further described as a judgment so severe that they very lifeblood of the nations will be poured out on the earth.  The entire passage is strikingly similar to Revelation 19, where Christ comes to "judge and make war...clothed with a vesture dipped in blood... treadeth the wines press of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God."  The flowing of the blood is similar to the description in Revelation 14:20.

From verses 7-19 and into chapter 64, contain a prayer of "thanksgiving," "confession," and "intercession."  "I will mention" can be translated, "I will celebrate."  "Goodness" refers to God's beneficent goodness, and "mercies" refers to His sympathizing tenderness.  "the angel of His presence" refers to the Presence of the Lord Himself (Exodus 33:14).  The reference to the "Holy Spirit" indicates His activity and ministry on behalf of Old Testament believers.

Today's Biblical Truth: Just a godly parents expect godly children, so God Himself expects us to be His godly children."

Today's Blog Title: "Assurance of Zion's Salvation"
Today's Blog Scripture Reading: Isaiah 62:1-12
Today's Blog Key Verse: Isaiah 62:1 "For Zion's sake I will not hold My peace, And for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, Until her righteousness goes forth as brightness, And her salvation as a lamp that burns."

Chapter 62, outlines the conditions that are preparatory to the deliverance of Zion and the establishment of Christ's kingdom.  "Righteousness" and "salvation" will burst forth as a light upon the "Gentiles."  Moreover, the Gentiles will not merely observe this light, but will receive it.  Israel will change so radically that she will "be called by a new name."

"Proclaimed to the end of the world" links this verse with "a banner for the peoples" in verse10.  "Say" in verse 11 is plural, indicting that a number of people will declare this announcement of salvation to Jerusalem.  "They" in verse 12 refers to the Gentiles.

Today's Biblical Truth: "We as Christians need to be intentional about putting ourselves in relationships where God can work for our spiritual well being."

"Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 6 July 2012"

Today's Blog Tittle: "The Good News Of Salvation"
Today's Blog Scripture Reading: Isaiah 61:1-11
Today's Blog Key Verse: Isaiah 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound."

Isaiah in chapter 61, introduces the King who will rule in the glorious kingdom he had just described in chapter 60.  After Jesus read from this passage in Luke 4:17-21, in the synagogue, He said, "This day is the scripture fulfilled in your ears."  The "me" on whom the "Spirit of the Lord God" rests is Christ, the One whom God has "anointed...to preach good tidings" (good news), and to "proclaim liberty."  When Jesus quoted this passage, He stopped at this point, indicating that the "day of vengeance" (final judgment), had not yet come.

For all of her suffering, Israel is promised a "double" blessing from God.  Thus God reaffirms His "everlasting covenant" with them.  The chapter concludes with a song of praise to the Lord.  The "garments of salvation" and the "robes of righteousness" are synonymous and refer to salvation itself.  They are paralled with the garments of a bridegroom and a bride.

Today's Biblical Truth: "The Good News has been preached; the day of vengeance is coming."

Today's Blog Scripture Reading: "Isaiah 60:1-22
Today's Blog Key Verse: Isaiah 61:1 "Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you."

In today's chapter reading, Isaiah foresees a time when Israel will "arise" out of her "darkness" and "shine" with God's glory.  Then the "Gentiles shall come" to her light.  Thus the "sons of strangers" described in this chapter will come to Jerusalem to worship the Lord.

The verses in this chapter, describe in detail the worship of the nations at Jerusalem where they will "bow themselves down" at the "city of the LORD."  In that day her "officers" (governors) will be "peace" and her "extractors" (magistrates or overseers) will be "righteousness."  Her walls will be "Salvation," her gates will be "Praise," and the whole city will be filled with the "brightness" of the the glory of the Lord.  In Revelation 21:23 and 22:5 we will read a similar description.

Today's Biblical Truth: the return of Christ will not be confined to a desert or some inner rooms.  When Christ returns, His coming will be so spectacular that everyone will know that He has arrived."

Bible Scripture Reading

"Greeting in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 2 July 2012"

Today's Blog Title: "Separated From God"
Today's Blog Reading: Isaiah 59:1-21
Today's Blog Key Verse: Isaiah 59:1 "Behold, the LORD's  hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear."

Isaiah 59, continues the judgments started in chapter 58 regarding Israel's hypocrisy.  God's hand is not yet beyond the reach of salvation.  But their "sins" separted them from His Presence, and they are described in great detail throughout this chapter.

Scripture tells us what sin is.  Isaiah emphasizes the fact that sin separates us from God.  While God is ready to forgive, even the believer who habitually practices sin is cut off from fellowship with the Lord (1 John 1:5-10).

The New Testament emphasizes the devasating effect sin of human nature.  Sin curses us with spiritual death, a condition that will carry over into eternity unless the sinner receives new life through faith in Christ (Romans 5:12-21).

Sin corrupts human nature; it turns our thoughts to evil acts, arouses wrong desires, and so weakens our wills that we choose the wrong even when we know what is good (Ephesians 2:1-3).  This really underlines the grim picture of life in a society of sinners as portrayed in Isaiah 59:3-15.  Sin brings man under the divine wrath (Isaiah 59:18).  How terrible sin is.  BUT how WONDERFUL, that we have a REDEEMER.

Today's Biblical Truth: "The only way to find healing is to be honest with yourself and God about your spiritual state."

Pray for our Brothers and Sisters in Christ who are being persecuted for their Faith and Trust in Jesus.  Pray for Youcef Nardarkhani the Iraian Pastor who has been sentenced to death for his refusal to denounce Jesus Christ as His Lord and Savior, and also for his lawyer who has been sentenced to 9 years in prison for defending him in the Iranian Court. Always remember, that when you have a spiritual dilemma in your life, and you yell out, "I CAN'T," GOD Whispers to you, "BUT I CAN."

Your Sister in Christ,
Cindi
