Bible Scripture Reading from Isaiah

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 23 April 2012''

Today's Blog Title: "Hezekiah's Life Extended"
Today's Blog Reading: Isaiah 38:1-39:8
Today's Blog Key Verse: Isaiah 38:20 "The LORD was ready to save me; Therefore we will sing my songs with stringed instruments, All the days of our life, in the house of the LORD."

Although Hezekiah trusted in God to heal him (Isaiah 38:1-22), he failed when the Babylonian envoys visited him.  After His recovery, he paraded his "own" glory not the "Lord's" (Isaiah 39:1-2).  Thus he implicitly placed his confidence in military strength and political alliances instead of the strength of Almighty God.  How many times do we think that we can handle our problems on our own.  I can imagine Almighty God sitting on His Throne and saying "Really" as we think that we can do it without Him.  I believe that He lets us "try" to do it ourselves, but when we really mess up what we "thought" we can do without God's directions, He is still there waiting to direct our lives to where "HE" wants us to go.  We see that because of Hezekiah's unbelief, Judah would go into exile (Isaiah 39:3-8).

The events covered in today's reading are actual out of chronologically, chapters 36 and 37 serving as a conclusion to the Assyrian period of Isaiah's ministry, and chapters 38 and 39 forming an introduction to the coming Babylonian captivity, which is pictured throughout chapters 40-66.  No indication is given of the nature of Hezekiah's sickness except that he was "sick unto death."  Hezekiah was deeply by Isaiah's stern warning that "thou shall die," Hezekiah "prayed" and "wept sore" and was given an extension of "fifteen years;" God promised that He would deliver Jerusalem out of the hand of the "king of Assyria.  In contrast to Ahaz, Hezekiah accepted the offer of a "sign" (miracle), requesting that the "sun dial of Ahaz" be moved "ten degrees backward" by a supernatural miracle that reversed the falling shadow on the steps (or degree markers) of the sundial.

Jesus Reigns!!! May God's Love, Peace, Strength, and Grace be with you all.

Your Sister in Christ,
Cindi
