"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"
Today's Blog Title: "Trust In the Lord and Do Good"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 37:1-40
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 37:39,40 "But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, Because they trust in Him."
"This is a wisdom psalm. It's simple message is to maintain PATIENCE in the midst of troubles. God's people can have such PATIENCE because they know that their eternal reward will abundantly surpass any temporal troubles.
David in this psalm teaches believers how to survive in the land of the wicked. A serious of proverbs instructs us, giving way to promises that the wicked will be punished. God upholds the just, despite the intent of the wicked to harm them.
How is the believer to respond to wicked individuals?
Don't Do
Fret (brood) verse 1 Trust in the Lord verse 3
Be envious verse 1 Go good verse 3
Fret Verse 7 Enjoy your blessings verse 3
Be angry verse 8 Delight in the Lord verse 4
Fret verse 8 Commit way to God verse 5
Trust in Him verse 5
Be still before God verse 7
Wait PATIENTLY for Him verse 7
The anger in 37:8 is what most of us would call "righteous indignation." It is clearly anger directed at the right thing--wicked wrong doing. But here angry is linked with the repeated concept of "fret". This is no sudden surge of anger that passes away. This is smoldering anger, a hostile resentment that we nurture and in time dominates our attitude toward wrongdoers. This is the anger we must release to replace with a perspective shaped by a quite trust in God. God doesn't expect us to remain passive while we wait for Him to act. He tell us to be active in doing good.
This psalm has four major parts: (1) the need for PATIENCE in light of the apparent success of the wicked (verses 1-11); (2) the need for PATIENCE in light of the final judgment of the wicked (verses 12-22); (3) encouragement for the righteous in view of the role of the wicked (verses 23-33); (4) a renewed call for PATIENCE in view of the apparent success of the wicked (verses 34-40)
This psalm concludes appropriately with an underlying affirmation of faith and trust in the unchanging character of God.
Today's Hymn: "I Take Refuge In You"
Turn to me and be gracious to me, Lord. Touch my heart for I am broken.
In Your mercy come and heal my distress, and forgive all my sin,
Lord forgive all my sin
I take refuge in you. Yeshua, I find comfort in you.
You alone are God, my deliverer, In the shelter of Your arms I take refuge in You
Messiah, I find comfort in you. Everyone who hopes in Your steadfast love
We'll find a place of refuge in you
Today's Biblical Truth: "To commit your way means "to roll it over on" the Lord. What a splendid picture of trusting in Him"
