"Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 20 July 2012"
Today's Blog Title: "Introduction Into the Book of Ruth"
The Book of Ruth is one of the Old Testaments warmest and most encouraging books. This brief book takes its Name from the books main character, "Ruth," a Moabite woman, who chose to commit herself to her Hebrew mother-in-law, and to Israel's God. This book, also demonstrates God's gracious concern for all mankind, Jews and Gentiles alike. This book was also read at the Feast of Pentecost.
The key people in the Book of Ruth are:
Ruth: A Moabite widow who allied herself with God's people out of love for her Hebrew mother-in-law, and whose gracious character won her renewed hope and a place among the people of God
Naomi: A Hebrew woman who knew tragedy, but rediscovered happiness through the faithfulness of Ruth, her Moabite daughter-in-law
Boaz: A godly Hebrew man, a relative of Naomi, who accepted a kinsman's responsibility and married Ruth, to the benefit of all three.
The Book of Ruth assures the believer of God's continuing love for a helpless mankind and His willingness to meet man's needs. It is an exciting story of true romance, this book also gives instruction in practical living in such things as personal morality, a genuine concern for the needs of others, and the necessity for personal godliness in the face of testing and adversity.
There is also a great deal of helpful information for today's Christian woman that can be found in the example of Ruth, whose virtues of godliness, purity, humility, honesty, fidelity, and thoughtfulness remain an exemplary standard for all women.
Boaz becomes for the Christian man, a model of God-given strength, honor, graciousness, courtesy, and compassion that can give encouragement for becoming a believing gentleman in the finest sense of the word. Boaz exemplified the compassion and love of a redeemer. His life is an illustration for us of the compassion of Jesus, who is our REDEEMER.
So as we read these 4 chapters of the Book of Ruth we will see how stunning it is, that God called a Moabite woman, not one of the chosen people to play an important role in the lineage of Jesus. What clear evidence this is that in ancient times as in ours, God's love reaches out to all.
