Bible Scripture Reading for Wednesday 23 November 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 23 November 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Trust Jesus Fully"
Today's Scripture Reading: John 6:1-71
Today's Key Verse: "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life. I am the bread of life."

As this chapter opens we see that Jesus feeds a great crowd that followed Him because they were intrigued by His miracles.  This is the only miracle reported in all four Gospels.  It reminds us that Jesus is able to stretch any resources we may have to meet our needs and the needs of others.

The crowd was enthusiastic over Jesus' ability to feed them, the crowd intends to make him king "by force".  Kings rule, they are not ruled by their people.  The very intent of the crowds to force Jesus to become king, shows how weak their allegiance was to Him.  That evening the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water and the following day the crowds set out, intent on finding Jesus wherever He may have gone.

When they found Him on the other side of the sea they said to Him, "Rabbi, when did you come here?"  Jesus challenges their motives for seeking Him, and when the crowds still insist, He provides bread, presenting Himself as the true bread from Heaven.  Believing in Jesus means "eating" His flesh as bread and "drinking" His blood.  Only by fully participating through faith in all Jesus is, and has done, will men and women find salvation.

Material bread must be eaten and digested, it becomes part of us.  In the same way all that Christ is, must become part of us.  We must appropriate Him by faith, take Him in completely that He might become part of us and sustain us.  Jesus alone is able to meet our need for eternal life."

This difficult teaching offends many who had called themselves "Jesus' disciples" and many leave. The twelve disciples stay, convinced there is no place better to go except to be with Jesus.  Jesus has the words of eternal life.  He is the Holy One of God.

It is interesting to note that Judas Iscariot never made Peter's confession of faith in Jesus Christ.  Though he was a disciple and even on of the twelve, it never said in Scripture that he believed.  Don't come to Jesus intending to use faith for your own purposes.  Come to Jesus as a subject, willing to let Him rule in your heart.

Today's Hymn: "Better Is One day In Your Courts"

Better is one day in Your courts, Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts, Than thousands eleswhere
One thing I ask and I would seek, To see Your Beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells
One thing I ask and I would seek, To see Your Beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells
How lovely is Your dwelling place, Oh, Lord Almighty
My soul longs and even faints for You
For here my heart is satisfied within Your Presence
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings
I could sing of Your love forever, I could sing of your love forever

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, How thankful is is that we can come to You through Your Son Jesus.  How wonderful it is to be within your Loving Presence and have an inimate relationship with You.  May we always remember that You and You alone are able to meet our physical as well as our spiritual needs and that we can completely trust in Your promise that You would never leave nor forsake us.
                                                                                                                                     Amen
