Bible Verse and Hymn for Saturday 8 January

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Abram and Lot"
Today's Scripture Reading: Genesis 13:1-18
Today's Key Verse: Genesis 13:16 "And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth, so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants could also could be numbered."

As this Chapter unfolds we see that Abram and Sarai have returned from Egypt where they had gone because of the famine in Chapter 12, and they have brought back with them Lot Abram's nephew.  Abram returned back to Canaan with wealth in livestock, silver and gold.

Abram and Lots herds were getting bigger and problems started to happen between Lot's and Abram's herdsman.  Abram acted with kindness and not wanting strife between them gave Lot his choice of where he wanted to go in the land.  Lot being greedy chose the well watered region in the plain of Jordan and Abram stayed in the land of Canaan.

After Lot leaves Abram, God reaffirms with Abram his promise that He would give his descendants all the land that he saw before him, and that his descendants would be so many that they could not be numbered.  Abram's walk in the land was a symbolic act of taking possession, because Abram would not take possession of the land, but his descendants would.

In the closing verse of Chapter 13, we see that Abram continued to build altars, to worship the Living God.

Closing Question and Comment: What attitudes of Abram can we apply in our own family life?  Abram is shown in his talk with Lot that he did not want fight his nephews family and herdsman, so he gave Lot his choice of the land that lay before them.  Abram not only showed a lack of self-interest, but also confidence in God's continuing provisions for him.

Blessed Savior thou hast promised, thou wilt all our burdens bear
May we ever, Lord, be bringing, all to Thee in earnest prayer
Soon in glory bright unclouded, there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship, will be our sweet portion there

Heavenly Father, may we like Abram not be greedy in our dealings with our family and friends. May you grant us like Abram, a kindness of heart in all our dealings with others.
                                                                               Amen

Have a God Filled and a Spirit Led Day and May God's Richest Blessings Be With All Of You.

Yours In Christ
Cindi
