Bible Verse and Hymn for Thursday 6 January

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: The Tower of Babel"
Today's Readings From: Genesis 11:1-9
Today's Key Verse: Genesis 11-9: "Therefore it is called Babel, because there the Lord confused the language of all the earth; and from there the Lord scattered then abroad all over the earth"

This account of one language speaks of a time soon after the flood, a time before the family had began to disperse.  The use of bricks for building was common.  The people here wanted to become famous, so being motivated by pride and there self importance, wanted to make a name for themselves, and they feared that the Lord would disperse them and they would not achieve the greatness that they seeked.

The Lord, came down to see the city, and the tower and saw that the potential was, that mankind will become as willfully sinful, as they were before the flood, and God was not going to allow this to happen.

Here is were, because of the arrogance of man, that the variation in language, culture, values and clans started.  If it were not for mans sense of self importance, this division would not have happened.  Isn't is great to know, that some day we will all be united in one language, to lift our voices together in praise, to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

God stopped this building of the tower, by causing a confusion of there language, so that they did not understand one another and because of this confusion of language, the Lord then scattered them over the face of the earth.

In the first 11 Chapters which we have covered, we have noted that there were three judgments by God, on sinful man. The first was Adam and Eve, being removed from the Garden of Eden (Chapter 3) the second is the flood (Chapter 6-9) and the third is the scattering of the people from Babel.

Now as you listen to someone babel on, you will know that the word babel comes from a city in the Bible, which was called Babel, because of  God confusing there languages, so that they didn't understand what the other was saying thus they were "babeling on."

Today's Question and Final Comment: "Whom do you trust more than God?"  The tower of Babel was a great human achievement, a wonder of the world.  The sinful thing about it tho, was it was a monument to the people themselves, rather than to God.  We often build, or buy material monuments to ourselves, to call attention to our achievements.  This may not be wrong in itself, but when you us them to give you identity, and self-worth, they then take God's place in your life.  We are free to develop in many areas of our life's, but we are not free to think we have replaced God.  What monuments are in your life?

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry everything to God in Prayer

Heavenly Father, May we in our life's realize. that the material things of this world should never replace you.  May we always place you, above everything else in our lives, that in so doing so, you will pour us out a blessing, from heaven.
                                                                             Amen

Have a God Filled and Spirit Led Day, and may Jesus, and His Love and Guidance, be your constant source of strength, in living your life for him.
