Bible Scripture an Hymn for Friday 1 April 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "The Lord Helps His Troubled People"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm  3: 1-8
Today's Key Verse:  Psalm 3:8 "Salvation belongs to the Lord.  Your blessing is upon Your people."

In this Psalm David is describing his feelings of abandonment as the northern tribes proclaim Absalom (his son) king and he is driven from Jerusalem.  His memory of all that God has done for him sustains him and he finds rest.  David appeals to God for deliverance and finds comfort how God has struck down his enemies in the past.

This psalm is a lament (mourning or weeping) song.  This was written as he fled from his son Absalom.  This is one of the few psalms titles that ties a psalm to a specific incident in the life of David.  This brief poem has four parts:

(1) David's opening Lament (verses 1,2)
(2) His strong confession of trust (verses 3,4)
(3) His determined act of faith (verses 5,6)
(4) His continuing plea (verse 7,8)

David in this Psalm found courage in realizing what God was to and for him.  Salvation here referes to deliverance from the immediate pressure that this psalm had already described.

Today's Hymn "He Leadeth Me"

He leadeth me, O Blessed thought! O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whatever I do, Wherever I be, Still its God hand that leadeth me.
He leadeth me, He leadeth me, By His own hand He leadeth me
His faithful follower I would be, For by His hand He leadeth me

Heavenly Father, We are thankful that as Your people, that You us are always with us.  May we as Christians, realize that even when we have a problem in our life, whether they are big or small, to take them to You in prayer and supplication.
                                                                                                          Amen
