Bible Scripture Reading for Friday 1 July 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 79:1-13

Today's Key Verse: Psalm 79:9 " Help us, O God of our salvation, For the glory of Your name; And deliver us, and provide atonement for our sins."

Psalm 79 is a lament psalm and was written by Asaph in response to an attack on the city of Jerusalem and the ransacking of the holy temple.  It is similar to Psalm 74.  This psalm was probably written during the destruction of the temple by the Babylonians.

Here we see that Asaph laments over the devastating invasion of Jerusalem and he begs God to deliver His people by judging their hostile neighbors.  When God acts,  then His people will praise Him forever.

This psalm has five parts: (1) a lament for the devastation of Jerusalem (verses 1-4); (2) a call for God to punish the enemies of Judah and Jerusalem (verses 5-7); (3) a plea for forgiveness and deliverance (verses 8-10); (4) a prayer for God to help His people and judge their enemies (verses 11,12); (5) a vow of praise in anticipation of the Lord's deliverance (verse 13).

Today's Hymn: "Have Thy Own Way Lord" (verse 1)

Have Thy own way, Lord! Have Thy own way!
Thou art the Potter I am the clay
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how grateful we are that You never ending love far out weights your anger.  How thankful we are that You are a Gracious God and that You love us, Your children.  How thankful we are that You wrap us up in Your strong and loving arms protect us from all harm.  Abba Father you are the Potter and we are the clay. Today and every day Lord mold us and make us after Thy Will  as we humbly and thankfully come before Thee.
                                                                                                                                        Amen
