Bible Scripture Reading for Wednesday 13 July 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 13 July 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "A Prayer of Moses"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 90:1-17
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 90:1,2 "Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.  Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God."

Psalm 90 is the only poem in the Book of Psalm written by Moses.  It is a psalm of lament in which the people complain of God's judgment and the brevity of life.  Even in the midst of sorrow, the people acknowledge the security they have in the Lord and pray for renewal.

The psalm also contracts the everlasting quality of God with man's frailty, which is a consequence of God's anger against sin.  Yet we see here God's mighty love can bring joy into the lives of believers and make life meaningful and worthwhile.

In verse 2, "Everlasting to everlasting", eternity is not so much in view as "all time", from its beginning to its end.  Thus we see that God is One who continually is.  We as human beings, in contrast to God, have only momentary existence on earth.

There are four main points to this psalm: (1) an affirmation of the security of a life lived close to the Lord (verses 1,2); (2) a complaint about the brevity of life (verses 3-6); (3) a complaint about God's judgment (verses 7-12), (4)  a prayer for restoration (verses 13-17).

Today's Hymn: "Grace Greater Than Our Sins"

Marvelous grace of our loving Lord, grace that exceeds our sin and guilt
Yonder on Calvary's mount out poured, there when the blood of the Lamb was spilled
Grace, grace, God's grace, grace that will pardon and cleanse within
Grace, grace, God's grace, grace that is greater than all our sins

Abba Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are as believers for your grace, that is indeed greater than all our sins.  May we live our lives totally for you and may we as John in the close of the Book of Revelation say, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus."
                                                                                                                        Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "Throughout history, people then as we do today, find the Lord to be our refuge in life"
