Bible Scripture Reading for Friday 8 July 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 8 July 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Praise for Forgiveness"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 85: 1-13
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 85:7 "Show us Your mercy, Lord, And grant us Your salvation."

Psalm 85 was written by the sons of Korah and is a psalm of Restoration deeply rooted in trust in God.  The setting for this psalm seems to be the restoration of the people of God following a great catastrophe.  With this psalm the people prayed revival of their spirits and a renewal in their land. The ultimate fulfillment of their prayer would be in the coming glorious kingdom of the Savior Jesus Christ

The psalmist in this psalm praises God for forgiving sin and pleads for Restoration and Deliverance .  He listens intensely and receives a promise from the Lord.  Now he is confident that the Lord will soon give what is good.

What gives us as Christians today confidence in a future restoration?  Four attributes of God: (1) Love, which makes him want to give us what is best (2) Faithfulness, which guarantees He will keep His promises made to us in Christ (3) Righteousness, which assures us us He will do right and (4) Peace, which brings all to harmony and balance.  Our restoration is assured by who our God is.

Today's Hymn: "How Long Has It Been" (verse 2)

How long has it been, since you knelt by your bed, And prayed to the Lord up in heaven
How long since you knew that He'd answer you,And would keep you the long night through?
How long as it been since you woke with the dawn, And felt that the day's worth the living
Can you call Him your friend? How long has it been since you knew
That He cared for you?

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,  How thankful we are as Christians that our restoration to you Abba Father was accomplished by the death and resurrection of Your Son Jesus Christ.  May we always be in prayer to you and into Your Word Lord and we might be hide Your Words in our hearts that we might not sin against Thee.
                                                                                                                   Amen
