Bible Scripture for Tuesday 31 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "The Anguish of Betrayal"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 55:1-23
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 55:16,17 "As for me, I will call upon God, And the Lord shall save me.  Evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and he shall hear my voice."

In this psalm David shares his dismay at betrayal by a close friend.  He cries out to God to judge the wicked, but still cannot come to grips with the fact that one of his intimates has turned against him.  Yet despite the terrible experience, David remains confident that the Lord will sustain him and so casts his cares on God.

This psalm has nine parts: (1) a call for God to hear in the midst of the distress (verses 1-3); (2) a wish to escape death (verses 4-8); (3) a prayer for God's judgment on the wicked (verses 9-11), (4) the description of a friend's betrayal (verses 12-14); (5) a renewed prayer for God's judgment on the wicked (verse 15); (6) a prayer for deliverance for the righteous (verses 16-19); (7) a retrospective on the friend's betrayal (verses 20,21); (8) a call for hope in the midst of trouble (verse 22); (9) a concluding statement of confidence in view of final judgment (verse 23).

Today's Hymn: "Anywhere With Jesus"

Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go, Anywhere He leads me in this world below
Anywhere without Him dearest joys would fade, Anywhere with Jesus I am not afraid
Anywhere, anywhere! Fear I cannot not know, Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit  As we go about our daily lives here on this planet that You have created, may we always be reminded that anywhere with Jesus we can safely go.
                                                                                                                                                        Amen
