Scripture Reading for Monday 30 May 2011

"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"

Today's Blog Title: "Praise When in Peril"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 54:1-1-7
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 54:1,2  "Save me, O God by your name, and vindicate me by Your strength.  Hear my prayer, O God; Give ear to the words of my mouth."

Psalm 54 is a psalm of lament in which the answer to the prayer is declared before the end of the poem.  David knew that he was being answered, and he sought immediately to make God's goodness known.  This psalm is another of David's psalms in which the title indicates the specific situation that produced the poem.

Twice the people of the Wilderness of Ziph told Saul were David was hiding.  David's distress is understandable, yet from the Ziphites position, their actions were right, since at that time Saul was king and David was on the run from Saul.

We see in this psalm that even though David is being pursued by his enemies, he is buoyed up by the confidence that God is helping him.

This psalm has three parts: (1) a call for God's help in the midst of persecution from many foes (verses 1-3); (2) a declaration that God is his helper (verses 4,5); (3) a vow of praise to God (verses 6,7).

Today's Hymn: "A Shelter In The Time Of Storm"

The Lord's our Rock, In Him we hide, a Shelter in the time of storm;
Secure whatever ill betide, a Shelter in the time of storm
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land, a weary land, a weary land
Oh, Jesus is a rock in a weary land, a Shelter in the time of storm

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit,  How thankful we are that because we are Your children we have Your strength and Your protection in the time of storm.  How grateful we are that in our storms of life and when we look down at the footprints in the sand and only see that one set we realize us that it was You carrying us through those difficult times and being our shelter in the time of storm.
                                                                                                      Amen

Today's Biblical Truth:  "Prayer is our heart felt cry to God, that binds our love relationship with Him"
