"Greetings Everyone in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ"
Today's Blog Title: "Pondering the Prosperity of the Wicked"
Today's Scripture Reading: "Psalm 73:1-28
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 73:28 "But it is good for me to draw near to God; I have put my trust in the Lord God, That I may declare all Your Works."
Psalm 73 is psalm of trust with some features of a wisdom psalm. The psalm is different in that it tells a story about the psalmist's struggle with envy, doubts, and his faith in God.
The writer of this psalm, Asaph, confess envy of the carefree life of the wicked in the world. He became bitter, feeling his own commitment to godliness was all in vain. Then while worshiping, he realized the very prosperity of the wicked was "slippery ground," for they felt no need of God and were vulnerable to judgment. He had God now and forever, and having God as his portion far outweighs a carefree life.
Asaph observes that sometimes the bounty achieved by the wicked does in fact throughout life. He emphasizes every believer's need to test his or her own personal relationship with God. That alone provides the ultimate satisfaction available to the believer who witnesses the affluence of the wicked.
This psalm has seven parts: (1) the temptation to be envious of the wicked (verses 1-3); (2) a description of the wicked (verses 4-14); (3) the realization that the end of the wicked is a balancing factor (verses 15-20); (4) the psalmist's regret over his uncertainty (verses 21-24); (5) a renewed resolve to trust in God alone (verses 25,26); (6) the destruction of the wicked (verse 27); (7) a renewed trust in God (verse 28).
Today's Hymn: "There's Sunshine in My Soul"
There is sunshine in my soul today, More glorious and bright
Than glow in any earthly sky, For Jesus is my light
O there's sunshine, blessed sunshine, When the peaceful moments roll;
When Jesus shows His smiling face, There is sunshine in my soul
Heaven Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit Help us as Christians not to be envious of non believers who have more than we do. We are as Christians, wealthy beyond compare because of the fact that we are sons and daughters of the King. Help us to lay down our worries and concerns and to pick up our cross and to keep our eyes focused on You and Your Word. May Your light shine within us so that we can be a beacon in a dark and sinful world, and bring others to Your saving grace.
Amen
