"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 16 September 2011"
Today's Blog Title: "Praise for Salvation"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 149:1-9
Today's Key Verses:
Psalm 149:1 "Praise the Lord! Sing to the Lord a new song, And His praise in the assembly of saints."
Psalm 149:4 "For the Lord takes pleasure in is people; He will beautify the humble with salvation."
The unique aspect of praise highlighted in this psalm is that praise is related to the kingdom of God. Though the psalm begins with normal call to praise, the cause for praise is quite unexpected: it is because the Lord intends to establish His kingdom on earth. This kingdom involves both the glorification of the righteous and the judgment of the wicked. This aspect of judgment is apparently to be carried out by the righteous.
This passage should be taken in a prophetic sense to refer to the time when God will in fact establish His kingdom on the earth with His glorified saints right behind him (revelation 19:11-21). Even in this age of grace, believers are instructed to to pray "Thy kingdom come" (Matthew 6:10), a petition that includes not only the glorification of the righteous but the destruction of the wicked.
The psalmist is instructing us a Christians even today to praise God wholeheartedly for the blessing of salvation and for His justice. The early Methodists in England were criticized for their "enthusiasm". The people were not suppose to get excited about God, as the followers of John and Charles Wesley were becoming.
Psalm 149:3 tells us that God is worth getting excited about and showing excitement. Perhaps our modern worship needs more of the vitality and ardor that characterizes Israel's worship at its best. Are you like me and get excited to stand and raise my arms to the worship of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Does your heart sing out Praises to the King of kings and Lord of lords? Be in daily prayer for your brothers and sisters in Christ who are in countries where they do not have the freedom to do what we do so freely and who are being persecuted for there belief in Jesus Christ. May we be "One With Them".
Today's Hymn: "Be Not Afraid I Go Before You Always"
You shall cross the barren desert, but you shall not die of thirst
You shall wander far in safety, though you do not know the way
You shall speak your words in foreign lands, and all will understand
You shall see the face of God, and live
Be not afraid, I go before you always
Come follow me, and I will give you rest.
Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how we love to stand and sing praises unto You. How you have made our lives so exciting and full of joy and peace. How exciting it is to know that with Jesus in our lives, we are sons and daughters of the King. May we, as we live our daily life's always have songs of praise within our hearts and upon our lips so that others will You within us and they might want what we have which is your Saving, Love, Mercy and Grace.
Amen
Today's Biblical Truth: "Praise unites people to God."
