Scripture Bible Verse for Sunday 18 September 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ fir 18 September 2011"

Today's Bible Verses: Luke 21:5-38

The do's and don'ts of looking toward history's end, might be a good title for Luke's report of Jesus' end times teachings in today's Bible Verses.  Jesus in these verses tells us:

(1)  Don't be deceived: (verse 8) The return of Jesus won't be a secret  There's no need for us to set dates.
(2) Don't be frightened: (verses 9-11) Human history will be filled with wars and disasters.  How good to know God will look after His own.
(3) Don't worry about yourself when persecuted, but witness to your persecutors: (verses 12-16) After all, the people in real trouble are the ones who oppress God's Saints!  Let the Spirit fill your mouth with words about Jesus and yours hearts with love for your enemies.
(4) Don't give up, even when everyone seems to turn against you: (verses 17-19) Stand firm on the foundation of your faith in Jesus.  Others can hate you, but they can't do you any lasting harm.
(5) Do flee Jerusalem when it is besieged (verses 20-24) This advise applied both to the Jews then living and to the lost who will dwell in the city as history's end draws near.
(6) Do take heart when the universe itself shows massive destabilization (verses 25-31) This is a sign that Christ is soon to appear and is a cause for believers to rejoice rather than fear.
(7) Do exalt in the certainty that God's Word is trustworthy, however life may be (verses 32-33) This reminder is for the last generation, but we can certainly take heart from it in our own hard times today.
(8) Do be watchful, pray, and preserve and so earn the approval of the Son of Man (verses 34-36) Life here on this planet has it pressures, and many of them are intense.  But we as Christians need to keep our eyes focused on Jesus and let nothing distract us from serving Him.

Today's Hymn: "When We All Get To Heaven"

Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace
In the mansions bright and blessed, He'll prepare for us a place
When we all get to heaven, What a day of rejoicing that will be
When we all see Jesus, We'll sing and shout the victory!

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are as Christians, as we look at the developing issues throughout the world, we rejoice because we realize that Your second coming is getting closer and closer.  We rejoice, because soon you will take us home to be with You, prior to the Tribulation Period, that will soon be upon this planet.  May we as Christians, continue to reach out with one hand toward this earth, as we reach out the lost, and the other toward heaven knowing that you will be there to give us pull us toward You and Your strength, love and mercy.
                                                                                                                       Amen
