Bible Scripture Reading for Sunday 11 September 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 11 September 2011"

Before I begin today's Bible Scripture reading I would like everyone to take a moment in silent prayer for all those who lost loved one in the terrorist attacks on the twin towers of the World Trade Center 10 years ago.

Today's Blog Title: "A Psalm of Praise"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 145:1-21
Today's Bible Scripture Readings:

Psalm 145:1-3 "I will extol You, my God, O King; And I will bless Your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever.  Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; And His greatness is unsearchable.
Psalm 145:5 "I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, And Your wondrous works."
Psalm 145:8 "The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy."
Psalm 145:10 "All Your works shall praise You, O Lord, And Your saints shall bless You."
Psalm 145:14 The Lord upholds all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down."
Psalm 145: 17-19 "The Lord is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works.  The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;  He also will hear their cry and save them."

Psalm 145 is the only psalm with the title, "Praise" in the entire collection and the psalm praises God for His mighty acts, His gracious character, and the glory of His coming kingdom.  Our Loving Lord shows His care for His own, who praise Him in return.

The Expository Dictionary of Bible Words defines praise as : (1) Praise is addressed to God or His "name".  God himself, His attributes, or His acts are the content of our thoughts, words and songs.  (2) Praise is linked with the believing community's joy in the person of God...Most praise comes from those who are filled with a sense of joy in who God is and how deeply He is committed to His people. (3) Praise exalts the Lord.  It is in praise that the believer implictly acknowledges God's greatness and goodness."

In essence, worship is the expression of respect for Him.  Individual worship is first is first of all and attitude of profound respect for God, demonstrated in a life of obedience.

God's kingdom is portrayed in two ways in the Bible. (1) God's kingdom is universal in that He exercises sovereign control over His creation.  Yet mysteriously, God chose to give humans beings the freedom to either submit to Him or temporarily resist His will.  Those who surrender to God in faith have been bought, in Paul's words, "into the kingdom of the the Son He loves" (Colossians 1:13).

(2) The Bible also speaks of God's kingdom in a future sense.  One day all mankind will acknowledge God's sovereignty and surrender, many unwilling, to His control.  When that happens God's kingdom will be established here on earth in its fullest sense.

The psalm has six parts: (1) a focus on the greatness of the Lord (verses 1-3); (2) an expectation on the ongoing praise of the Lord (verses 4-7); (3) a focus on the character of the Lord (verses 8,9); (4) an expression concerning the kingdom of the Lord (verses 10-13); (5) an acknowledgement of the grace of the Lord (verses 14-16); a focus on the righteous grace of the Lord (verses 17-21).

Today's Hymn: "You Will Never walk Alone"

When you walk through the storm, Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark, at the end of the storm
There's a golden sky, and the sweet silver song of the lark
Walk on, through the wind, walk on, through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown,
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone, You'll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on, with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone, you'll never walk alone

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, Your grandeur in the universe reminds us how small we are in Your presence and How Great Thou Art.  We are thankful that you are gracious and full of compassion and Your merciful character.  May we as Christians be resolved and faithful in our continued praising of You Abba Father, and all that You do for us.
                                                                                                                                          Amen
Today's Biblical Truth: "God's wonder and mercy will be known throughout the land and will be taught for all generations"
