"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 5 September 2011"
Today's Blog Title: "Against the Wicked"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 140:1-13
Today Key Verses:
Psalm 140:6 "I said to the Lord: "You are my God; Hear the voice of my supplications O Lord."
Psalm 140:13 "Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; The upright shall dwell in Your presence."
Psalm 140-143 may bey be linked together since they all portray, thought in different way the godly response to trials. All four of these psalms (140-143) are prayers and all four are written by David.
The situation underlying Psalm 140 is clear from the first verse: David is being threatened by His enemies. They are quite adequately described in his lament, but David turns to God with his petition against them confident that He will be heard.
This psalm has 5 parts: (1) a petition that David be delivered from the wicked (verses 1-3); (2) a petition that David be kept from the wicked (verses 4,5); (3) a confession of trust in the Lord (verses 6-8); (4) a prayer for the punishment of the wicked (verses 9-11); (5) a declaration that the Lord will deliver the afflicted (verses 12,13).
Today's Hymn: "Blessed Assurance"
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of His Spirit, washed in his blood
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior, all the day long
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior, all the day long
Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are that we as Your children can come to You in prayer and that your ear is always in tuned to our every need. How thankful we are that you protect and deliver us from those that harm us and that we are in Good Hands with the protection that You give to us. May we have a joyful song of praise within our hearts and upon our lips all the day long.
Amen
Today's Biblical Truth: "The cause of the poor and afflicted is of special interest to the Lord. He promises to uphold and comfort them."
