"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 28 September 2011"
Today's Blog Title: "God Is Free To Be Good"
Today's Scripture Reading: Romans 9:1-33
Today's Key Verse: Romans 9:14,15 "What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? Certainly not! For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and i will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion."
In Romans Chapter 9 Paul takes up another issue. God counts as righteous, men and women who have faith and actually makes righteous believers who live by faith. But is God righteous in His treatment of Israel, seeming set aside His ancient people in favor of the Gentiles? In three sweeping chapters Paul proves that God's righteous in all His ways.
Paul expresses his personal anguish over Israel's rejection of their Messiah (verses 1-5). But history shows that God initial choice of Israel was sovereign and free, not dependent on the works of any of the patriarchs (verses 6-13). The Old Testament consistently portrays God as a sovereign being. In face he has exercised His sovereign choice to save rather than to destroy His people despite their sins (verses 14-29).
God's choice of the Gentiles to obtain a righteousness they never sought is simply another expression of that sovereign grace that has marked his actions (verse 30). As for Israel, that people stumbled through no fault of God, but because they pursued righteousness as if it could be obtained by works rather than faith (verses 31-33). In everything God has been consistent and totally fair.
Today's Hymn: "Be Not Afraid I Go Before You Always" (verse 2)
If you pass through the raging waters of the sea, you shall not drown
If you walk amid the burning flames, you shall not be harmed
If you stand before the power of hell, and death is at your side
Know that I am with you, through it all
Be not afraid, I go always before you, and I will give you rest
Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are as Christians, as Believers, as your Children to know that when we go through trails and tribulations that you pick up up and carry us that You Father take our burdens and our loads upon Your string and never failing shoulders. You are there with us to help us through it, and to strengthen our faith and our trust in You as our Shepherd. You help us to realize that as we walk through the valley of the shadow of death that we will fear no evil for indeed you are with us now and forever.
Amen
Today's Biblical Truth: "The basis of God's sovereign choice is not a person's conduct, but God's compassion."
