"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 22 September 2011"
Today's Blog Title: "God is Free to Forgive"
Today's Scripture Reading: Romans 3:1-31
Today's Key Verse: Romans 3:23-26 "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus."
The great advantage the Jews have is possession of the Word of God. Whether or not they believe it is irrelevant. Lack of faith cannot nullify God's faithfulness, and God will judge sinners whatever complaint they register. The fact is Scripture charges everyone with sin. That legal determination brings dread silence as humankind stands before the dread bar of divine judgment. It also causes a great shift in our understanding of the function of divine Law. God's Law is not intended to save, but to make us aware of our sin!
Then suddenly the bad news is transformed into good! God has revealed a righteousness that has nothing to do with the Law. In Today's Scripture Reading God has revealed to us that no one can live up to God's perfect way. "We all have sinned", and fall short of His glory. We cannot save ourselves because as sinners we can never meet God's requirements. Our only hope is faith in Jesus Christ.
We as Christians are justified which means we are "declared righteous", freely, without cost, by God's grace, or "favor". Jesus Christ died to provide redemption, which means, HE DIED to PAY the PRICE required to RANSOM SINNERS. By paying the penalty of our sin through His death, Jesus can free those who believe in Him. We as Christians can now approach God's throne with praise. Through God's divine LOVE and GRACE we have been restored to a proper relationship with Him.
By His death, Christ satisfied the Justice of God. He paid the penalty of sin sin in FULL. Paul cites two reasons why righteousness come through the dead of Jesus. (1) To demonstrate that God Himself is righteousness, and did not judge the sins prior to the cross. (2) That God wanted to show that He is both righteous and at the same time the One who can declare sinners righteous. Because of Christ's death, God does not compromise His holiness when he forgives a sinner.
"Atonement", implies the sacrificial death of a substitute who takes the punishment an offenders deserves. Jesus surrendered Himself up to death, represented here in the shedding of His blood. As a substitute He took the awesome penalty our sins deserved and thus saved us from the punishment that we as sinners deserve.
Today's Hymn: "Room At The Cross For You"
The Cross upon which Jesus Died, is a shelter in which we can hide;
And its grace so free is sufficient for me, and deep is its foundation as wide as the sea
There's room at the Cross for you, there's room at the Cross for you
Though millions have come, there's still room for one
Yes, there's room at the cross for you.
Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how we thankful Lord Jesus of Your Sacrifice upon the Cross of Calvary so that we might have forgiveness of our sins and made whole in that we might boldly come before the throne of our Heavenly Father cleansed of our sins and of our unrighteousness. To You Father we give all the Praise and Glory forever and ever.
Amen
Today's Biblical Truth: "God alone saves, and His salvation is a free gift. No one can stand before God and boast of there good deeds. God is the only one who is righteous, and for that reason He should be praised."
