Bible Scripture Reading for Monday 19 September 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 19 September 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Introduction to the Book of Romans"

The Book of Romans is the theological cornerstone of the New Testament and is perhaps the greatest of Paul's Epistles.   In Romans, Paul answers the most difficult questions posed by Jesus' appearance, crucifixion, and resurrection. Where is the unity between the Old and New Testaments ? Aren't Law and Faith contradictory principles? Don't the new revelation deny the old? Isn't God being inconsistent?  These were the issues that lay at the heart of the hostility of the first century Jews to Christianity.  The book of Romans answers the most profound of our theological questions about the harmony of God's whole Word.

Paul's key to the reconciliation of the Old and New Testaments revelations is founded in his concept of "righteousness". Paul insists that following Jesus righteousness, requires actually being like God in motive and act.  Only God can transform a sinful human being, to make him or her truly like the Lord.

Righteousness in Romans

Gospel Righteousness (Romans 1): The gospel is about a righteousness which comes from God "by faith from first to last."
Need for Righteousness (Romans 2-3): The Jew with the Law and the Gentile without it both have sinned and desperately need a righteousness neither possesses.
Righteousness and Faith (Romans 3-4): God has always accepted faith in place of the righteousness humans do not possess.  Jesus' sacrifice of Himself makes this possible  and is the basis for forgiveness freely offered both the Old and New Testament saints.
Righteousness realized Romans (Romans 6-8): Faith unites the believer with Jesus in His life as well as His death.  The indwelling Holy Spirit within us gives us power to live righteously here and now, if we but live by faith.
Righteousness in history (Romans 9-11): God has consistently operated on principles embedded in the Gospel in the Old Testament as well as the New Testament.
Righteousness in the faith community (Romans 12-16): Believers are to live out God's righteousness in relationships with the Christian community.  Paul gives a beautiful description of righteousness, as God's character find expression in the way Christians live together in the Lord.

It is my prayer that as we read the Book of Romans that you will see what a Righteous and Loving God we serve and that you will see the Book of Romans as the, "Blue Print of Salvation."

Today's Hymn: "How Firm A Foundation"

Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am Thy God and will still give thee aid;
I'll strengthen and help thee, and cause thee to stand
Upheld my My righteous, omnipotent hand.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, it is my prayer that as we start this Blog into the Book of Romans, that You will open our eyes to the meaning of righteousness in You and what faith in You is all about, so that as we live our life's here on this earth we will become more like Your Son Jesus and walk in His footsteps each and everyday.
                                                                                                                           Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "Jesus Christ because of His sacrificial death on the Cross in the place of sinners is the Author and Provider of salvation."

Have a God Filled and Spirit Led Day.  Go in Peace and Serve the Lord our God with Gladness. Love God More Today and always remember that when you have a spiritual dilemma in your life and you yell out, "I CAN'T", God Whispers to you, "BUT I CAN".

"Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand against my enemies, And your right hand will save me." Psalm 138:7
