Bible Scriptture Reading for Friday 26 August 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 26 August 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Waiting for the Redemption of the Lord" (Day 11 in the "Songs of Ascent" or "Pilgrim Songs").
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 130:1-8
Today's Key Verses:

Psalm 130:1,2 "Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord; Lord, hear my voice! Let Your ears be attentive To the voice of my supplications."
Psalm 130:5 " I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope."
Psalm 130:7 " O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is mercy, And with Him is abundant redemption."

Psalm 130 is a penitential psalm, and is the eleventh "Song of Ascent", and it's placement following a psalm of imprecation (Psalm 129) is fitting.  After all, a person might take such joy in the destruction of the wicked that he or she no longer would consider his or her own heart before the Lord.

The first four words  of this psalm would form an appropriate title: "Out of the depths".  This is the initial position of  the psalmist as he offers his petition to the Lord for deliverance.  He then quickly moves to an expression of expectation and ends with an outward focus consisting of exhortation to others to hope in the Lord.

This psalm is also a psalm of mercy.  It blends the major elements of mercy as understood in the Bible: The psalmist in distress.  Yet assurance of forgiveness gives us and all of God's children strength to wait till He acts in love and redeems.

There are four parts to this psalm: (1) a call for God's mercy (verses 1,2); (2) a recognition of God's forgiveness (verses 3,4); (3) an expectation of God's forgiveness (verses 5,6); (4) a call for God's mercy on all (verses 7,8).

Today's Hymn: "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" (verse 2)

Through death into life everlasting, He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion, For more than conquerors we are!
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full into His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are that we as Christian can shout from the depths of despair to You knowing that You will listen to us.  We thank You that through Your grace we are forgiven and that all our hope is placed in you.  How thankful we are that our redemption came in the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
                                                                                                                                            Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "The truly forgiven sinner realizes the magnitude of God's grace and remains grateful for the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins, and lives in awe of God."

Have a God Filled and Spirit Led Day.  Go in Peace and Serve the Lord our God with Gladness.  Love God More Today and  always remember that when you have a spiritual dilemma in your life and you yell out, "I CAN'T", God Whispers to you, "BUT I CAN".

"But you O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head."

Your Sister In Christ,
Cindi
