Bible Scripture Reading for Monday 1 August 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 1 August 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Praise from the Confident"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 108:1-13
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 108:4-6 "For Your mercy is great above the heavens, And Your truth reaches the clouds.  Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and Your glory above all the earth; That Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and hear me."

Psalm 108 is a psalm of trust, and reveals the assurance a person can gave when the Lord is his or her God.  This psalm is actually a medley of two other psalms of David.  Verses 1-5 are from Psalm 57:7-11, and verses 6-13 are from Psalm 60:5-11.  Since David is the author of both psalms, the verses of this psalm may be credited to him as well, even if the arrangement may have been the work of an anonymous editor.

As this psalm shows, there was considerable reworking of some parts of the Book of Psalms so that the psalms could be used in the varying circumstances of temple worship.

David in this psalm praises God and expresses his confidence in God's great love.  David prays for God's help in battle, sure that "with God we will gain the victory".

Even today, as David prayed for help in battle, we as Christians  need to pray for God's help as we are at war with the dark forces of this world.  We need to put on the "Whole Armor of God" (Ephesians 6:10-18) that we might be able to "withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."

Today's Hymn: "Redeemed How I Love To Proclaim It"

Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it!  Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb
Redeemed through His infinite mercy, His child and forever I am
Redeemed, redeemed, redeemed by the blood of the Lamb,
Redeemed, redeemed, His child and forever I am

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are Father that because of the shed blood of Your Son Jesus Christ we are indeed redeemed and His child forever we are.  Help us Lord in are daily battle against the attacks of Satan against us.  My prayer does out especially to those in other countries that are reading this blog and are going through persecution, imprisonments and even death because of there faith in You.  May they continue to be the beacon of light that draws others to You because of there boldness and courage to tell others about the Good News of the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ and His saving grace.
                                                                                                                                           Amen
Today's Biblical Truth: "Knowledge is obtained by dedicating ourselves to learning God's truth in the Scriptures and putting that truth into action."
