Bible Scripture Reading for Tuesday 30 August 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 30 August 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Praising the Lord in His House at Night" (Day 15 in the "Songs of Ascent" or "The Pilgrim Songs").
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 134:1-3
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 134:2 "Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord."

Psalm 134 concludes the "Songs of Ascent" or "The Pilgrim Songs".  The psalm was likely read as a responsive poem of praise.  This psalm acknowledges that those who serve God are the most blessed of all.  Though the first "Song of Ascent" found the dire straits of alien territory, the last of the "Songs of Ascent", finds God's servants serving Him day and night in His house.

To "bless the Lord" in verse one is to identify Him as the source of all blessing.  The idea behind this blessing was that the people who had come to worship were getting ready to go home.  They had come for a great festival but now were getting ready to return to their regular work and routine.  However the priests remained at the holy temple.  It was their continuing worship of the Lord that allowed God's blessings to continue on the nation as a whole.

In verse 2 the words, "Lift up your hands", was one of the standard postures for prayer in Biblical times where the people prayed with out stretched hands toward heaven.  We as Christians today should follow the example of the people of Israel and when we pray, lift our hands up to heaven to our merciful, loving and gracious God in our daily prayers, walk and worship of Him.

Bless you from Zion was the grateful response of the priests to the people, their own blessing on the people from the holy temple.

This last and brief "Song of Ascent" has two parts: (1) the blessing of the priests by the people (verses 1,2); (2) the blessing of the people  by the priest (verse 3).

Today's Hymn: "Faith Unlocks The Door"

Have faith when you speak to the master, that's all He asks you for
Prayer is the key to heaven, but faith unlocks the door.
Prayer is the key to heaven, but faith unlocks the door
Prayer without faith, is like a boat with an oar

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, as we go about our busy lives here on this our temporary home may we as Christians always take time to come to you in prayer as we seek you guidance through the day.  May our faith be strong and enduring and may our love and worship of you be never ending for you Abba Father first loved us before we ever loved you.
                                                                                                                                                  Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "Perseverance and patience in prayer are essential."

Have a God Filled and Spirit Led Day.  Go in Peace and Serve the Lord our God with Gladness.  Love God More today and always remember that when you have a spiritual dilemma in your life and you yell out, "I CAN'T",  God Whispers to you, "BUT I CAN".

"He who follows righteousness and mercy, Finds life, righteousness and honor." (Proverbs 21:21)
