Bible Scripture Reading for for Friday 19 August 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 19 August 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Prayer for Relief from Contempt" (Day 4 of the "Songs of the Ascent" or "Pilgrim Song".
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 123:1-4
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 123:1 "Unto You I lift my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens."

This psalm is a very brief psalm and is the fourth in the "Songs of Ascent".  This psalm is an individual psalm of lament.  This psalm also expresses first the trusting attitude of the psalmist, then his petition offered from a distressing situation.

The temple was considered God's dwelling place; yet the Israelites also knew that the Almighty God who made the heavens did not live in the buildings made by mans hands.  We as servants of God should always have our eyes fixed on God.  The more we look to the Lord, the more that we become like Him.  When we as Christians are not being distracted by the other things of this life, causes us to win the the race of life.

This brief psalm has two main parts: (1) an affirmation that the people's eyes are fixed on the Lord (verses 1,2); (2) a petition for the Lord to direct His attention to His people (verses 3,4).

Today's Hymn: "Shall We Gather At The River"

Shall we gather at the river, where bright angel feet have trod
With its crystal tide forever, flowing by the throne of God
Yes, we'll gather at the river, the beautiful, the beautiful river
Gather with the saints at the river, that flows by the throne of God

Heaven Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, may we as Christians always keep our eyes fixed upon You so the the more we look upon You the more that we will become like You.  Help us to keep our minds clear and to keep our eyes focused on the Cross and upon you as we walk the straight and narrow path which leads your throne.
                                                                                                                        Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "God's mercy alludes to God's promise to show mercy to those who love Him."

Have a God Filled and Spirit Led Day.  Go in Peace and Serve the Lord our God with Gladness.  Love God More Today and always remember that when you have a spiritual dilemma in your life and you yell out, "I CAN'T",  God Whispers to you, "BUT I CAN".

"And this is the promise that He has promised us--eternal life." (1 John 2:25)
