Bible Scripture Reading for 17 August 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 17 August 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "God the Help of Those Who Seek Him" (Songs of the Ascent or Pilgrims Songs) (day 2)
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 121:1-8
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 121:2 "My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth."

Psalm 121, a psalm of trust, is the second Song of Ascent.  Psalm 120 set the stage for the Israelites journey to the Holy City and this psalm is a song for the road.  This psalm fits well against the backdrop of a pilgrimage for it is concerned with the uncertainties one faces on such a journey.  It moves naturally from the need of help to the promise of God's protection.

This psalm is an affirmation of confidence that God will watch over Israel and shelter His people from all harm.

This psalm has four parts: (1) an affirmation that help is from God (verses 1,2); (2) a word of praise to God who does not slumber (verses 3,4); (3) a word of praise to God, who keeps His people (verses 5,6); (4) an affirmation that God will protect His people during their journeys (verses 7,8).

Today's Hymn "Blessed Assurance"

Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior, all the day long
This is my story, this is my song, praising my Savior, all the day long

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are that You do not slumber and that You are always here for us.  How thankful we are that You protect us with Your loving and strong arms.  Thank You Jesus for purchasing our salvation with Your blood that was shed at the Cross of Calvary.  How wonderful it is is to be born of Your Spirit, washed in Your blood and lost in Your never ending love and grace.
                                                                                                                                Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "Where can our hope and help come from? Help and hope comes from the Lord."

Have a God Filled and Spirit Led Day.  Go in Peace and Serve the Lord our God with Gladness.  Love God More Today and always remember that when you have a spiritual dilemma in your life and you yell out, "I CAN'T",  God Whispers to you, "BUT I CAN".

"For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all who call upon You." (Psalm 86:5)
