Bible Scripture Reading for Wednesday 31 August 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 31 August 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "In Praise of God's Faithfulness and Greatness"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 135:1-21
Today's Key Verses:
Psalm 135:1 "Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord; Praise Him, O you servants of the Lord!"
Psalm 135:3 "Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; Sing praises to His name, for it is pleasant."
Psalm 135:13 "Your name, O Lord, endures forever, Your fame, O Lord, throughout all generations."

Psalm 135, is a psalm of descriptive praise that recalls ideas from several earlier psalms and may have been written after the exile in Babylon.  This psalm presents God's saving saving works during the Exodus and contains a scathing attack on idolatry which was taken from Psalm 115.

The call to praise concludes with an introduction of its themes: praise of God's choice of Israel and praise of God's sovereign power.  This psalm ends with a glad cry urging the house of Israel to praise God together.

Praise in Scripture is most frequently a community activity.  What God has done for you and me individually, He has done for all His people.  We need to join with others and praise God together as the author of this psalm instructs us in Today's Scripture Reading.

Today's Hymn: "Great Is Thy Faithfulness"

Great is thy Faithfulness, O God my Father; there is no shadow of turning with Thee
Thou changest not, Thy compassion's, they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be
Great is Thy Faithfulness! Great is Thy Faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided; Great is Thy Faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are to You for your never ending Faithfulness to as Your children.  Each day Lord is a new adventure with You and each day we are closer to spending all eternity with You and basking in Your Love and Glory.  How great is is to know that as we begin each day to know that we are sons and daughters of the King of kings and Lord of lords.
                                                                                                                  Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "To bless the Lord, is to identify Him as the source of all blessing and to be grateful for all He has given."
