"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 2 August 2011"
Today's Blog Title: "A Prayer Against the Unrighteous"
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 109:1-31
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 109 1:26 "Help me, O Lord my God! Oh, save me according to Your mercy."
This psalm contains the most vivid example of a imprecatory prayer found in all the psalms. Such petitions for retributive justice have posed a question: How can a man who claims to trust in the Lord (verses 21-31) pray such curses on His enemies as those found in verses 6-20?
Several answers may be offered for this question. The first is, there is a legitimate righteous indignation again sin. God Himself possesses this attribute and Jesus indirectly commanded it when He instructed His disciples to pray, "Thy kingdom come." The coming of God's kingdom includes the destruction of the wicked.
Second, the curses used here are actually a prayer that places the matter into the hand of a just and holy God.
Third Peter quotes from Psalm 69 and 109 in Acts 1:20 and attributes both references to the Holy Spirit.
Fourth, the psalmist is so identified with God that he has the mind set of God: the psalmist's enemies are likewise at enmity with God.
David asks God to act against those who have unjustly attacked him. He expresses his desire that the wicked be found guilty and suffer retribution. David's grim antagonism toward the wicked is seen to be justified as he describes the harm the wicked have done others. David ends this psalm with an appeal for help against the wicked, who threaten and oppress David himself.
Today's Hymn: "Anywhere With Jesus" (verse2)
Anywhere with Jesus, I am not alone, other friends may fail me, He is still my own
Though His hand may lead me over drearest ways, Anywhere with Jesus is a house of praise
Anywhere, anywhere! Fear I cannot know
Anywhere with Jesus I can safely go
Heavenly Father Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, how thankful we are that we have the guidance and protection of the Holy Spirit against those that attack us because of our faith and trust in You. May we stand tall in our everyday lives and may the Light of Jesus shine within us as we reach out to a lost and dying world, sharing the Good News about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. With you Lord, we have no fear, and anywhere with You, we can safely go.
Amen
Today's Biblical Truth: "Christians may feel compelled to vent there anger in words, but they also understand that vengeance itself belongs to the Lord."
Have a God Filled and Spirit Led Day. Go in Peace and Serve the Lord our God with Gladness. Love God More Today and always remember that when you have a spiritual dilemma in your life and you yell out, "I CAN'T", God Whispers to you, "BUT I CAN".
"Here I Am Lord, Send ME"
