Bible Scripture Reading for Thursday 25 August 2011

"Greetings in the Name of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for 25 August 2011"

Today's Blog Title: "Song of  Victory over Zion's Enemies" (Day 10 in the "Songs of the Ascent", or "Pilgrim Song").
Today's Scripture Reading: Psalm 129:1-8
Today's Key Verse: Psalm 129:4 "The Lord is righteous; He has cut in pieces the cords of the wicked."

Psalm 129 is a psalm of trust and has it's roots in the psalm of lament, for those psalms contain a section proclaiming trust in the Lord.  This is the Tenth in the "Songs of Ascent", and has an antiphonal quality, calling for response and counter response.

This psalm grows out of a situation of conflict.  The psalmist looks back at the record of the past: though he was afflicted, God delivered him.  Then he sets forth a prayer for the future: let God confound the enemies and bless His people.

This psalm has three parts: (1) a rehearsal of the afflictions of Israel (verses 1-3); (2) an affirmation of the victory of God (verse 4); (3) a condemnation of the wicked who have afflicted Israel (verses 5-8).

Today's Hymn: "This Is My Fathers World"

This is my Fathers world, and to my listening ears
All nature sings, and round me rings
The music of the spheres
This is my Fathers world, I rest me in the thought
Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas
His hand the wonders wrought.

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, what a loving and compassionate God that you are .  May we as your children come to you with reverence and respect and Who and What You are, our Abba Father.  Place within our hearts a new song and may we always long to come before you in praise and song.
                                                                                                                             Amen

Today's Biblical Truth: "The Lord always remains faithful to His promises to us His children."

Have a God Filled and Spirit Led Day.  Go in Peace and Serve the Lord our God with Gladness.  Love God More Today and always remember that when you have a spiritual dilemma in your life and you yell out, "I CAN'T",  God Whispers to you, "BUT I CAN".

"The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles.  The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit." (Psalm 34:17,18)
